CITY OF HOPE: TRANSFORMING CANCER CARE IN HUNTINGTON BEACH

City of Hope is one of the largest and most advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the country. 7:00 AM Rise and shine for an early morning beach stroll where you can enjoy our golden sugary sand beaches. Visit the iconic Huntington Beach Pier and watch as surfers with colorful boards wait for the perfect wave or watch a brown pelican flop from the sky, scooping up breakfast in its massive beak pouch. Snap a few shots in this Instagrammable hotspot that you may recognize from many movies and TV shows including Beverly Hills 90210.

9:00 AM Amble along the streets in downtown Huntington Beach. Dive into one of our local coffee shops or grab yourself a nibble at one of our many food trucks. We have ample outdoor space to enjoy your chosen food and beverage. Take in the sights, sounds, and smells of Surf City USA but don’t feed our flying friends. They get a bit greedy.

11:00 AM Learn where Surf City got its name with a visit to the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum. The museum founder’s story is almost as exciting as learning about the sport and hobby. Natalie Kotsch, a Canadian, was moved to start the museum when she realized how happy the surf culture made her. She had never surfed but was caught up in the swell of the local history, welcoming vibe, and cool spirit behind riding the board. Surfers from around the globe come to pay homage to their favorite activity and often share stories of their amazing experiences. If

possible, coordinate your visit with one of the Surfin’ Sunday Concerts for an extra special treat.

12:00 Even if you’re still full from breakfast, scrumptious Surf City is not the kind of place where you’re going to want to skip a meal. There are too many delicious options, and you’ll need plenty of time to fit them all in. But if you’re not quite ready, why not check out our beautiful 10-mile bike path along the water? It’s a great way to burn off breakfast and enjoy the sites. There are multiple bike rental shops and some hotels will loan travelers a bike or a scooter.

1:30 PM Take a surf lesson. There’s no better place to learn to surf than in Surf City USA. Celebrating 20 years of the Robert Mayer Leadership Academy

SESSIONS HELD THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH* SEPTEMBER THROUGH JUNE.

All program sessions are scheduled to meet from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., including orientation. Absences from class are discouraged, and all participants are required to comply with absentee policy. *With the exception of the two-night “mandatory” retreat and the Alumni Reception.

GROUP PROJECTS ARE AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF THE PROGRAM.

A significant amount of time outside monthly session time is required during the last six months of the program to strategize, organize and complete community benefit activities. The results of the class project process will be shared with an audience of friends, alumni and invited guests on the evening of graduation.

TUITION IS $1,250 ON OR PRIOR TO JUNE 30TH, 2025. TUITION AFTER JUNE 2025 WILL BE $1,400. 50% DEPOSIT DUE BEFORE RETREAT IN OCTOBER.

This amount represents only a portion of the costs required to produce the principled leadership program. Applicants are responsible for the tuition regardless of whether an employer or organization expressed intent to cover this expense.

ACCEPTED CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR A PARTIAL TUITION DISCOUNT.
