Looking Ahead at La Costa
The dog days of summer are here, but even with a little extra heat and humidity, our members continue to make the most of everything the Club has to offer. Our Sunset Series has become a favorite for casual, fun-filled evenings, and Tiki Social at Edge Pool remains the place to celebrate the weekend!
The excitement continues throughout August with another full calendar of events. Whether you're enjoying the Summer Music Series, Ocaso by the Fountain, our Picnic Under the Stars Stargazing Event, Spa Summer Camp, or All-You-Can-Eat Tacos & Nachos at Champions Club, there are countless opportunities to fill your social calendar while staying active with the Club's outstanding athletic programming.
Speaking of staying active, August is a big month for golf. Our annual Bella Dama Women's Member-Guest Tournament takes place August 14–16, followed by the 2026 Net & Gross Championships, held alongside the 2026 Women's Club Championship on August 22–23. We look forward to celebrating the outstanding competition and camaraderie these signature events bring each year.
The action continues on the courts as well. The Racquets Club Championship returns August 28–30, joining a full lineup of programs including Dink 'n Drink Pickleball, Tennis 101 & 102, Cardio Tennis, Level Up, and our Intermediate and Advanced Clinics.
We're also excited to introduce our NEW Discover Pickleball Clinics, designed specifically for beginners. Whether you've never picked up a paddle or are simply curious about the sport, these sessions are the perfect introduction to one of the fastest-growing games in the world.
As the kids head back to school, be sure to register them for our fall camps and activities. And for members ages 13–17, don't miss our first-ever Young Member Mixer on Friday, August 7, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. This exciting evening is designed just for teens to connect, have fun, and enjoy the Club with friends.
And while August is packed with great activities, there's even more to look forward to in September our "locals' summer." We'll kick things off with our Labor Day Celebration featuring Luke Grimes on September 5, followed one week later by our annual All-Member Appreciation Event The Flamingle. We can't wait to celebrate with you.

Parking Update
As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing your experience at the Club, we will begin an important parking lot improvement project on August 3 . Work will begin with the Luna Ballroom parking lot before transitioning to the Country Club Member parking lot. These improvements are designed to provide a smoother, safer, and more enjoyable parking experience for our members and guests. rd
During this upgrade, you may experience temporary parking limitations and minor traffic adjustments. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we complete this project. If possible, we also encourage members to carpool, bike, or walk to the Club during this time to help reduce parking demand and make access easier for everyone.

August AgronomyUpdates
Course Conditions and Progres
Summer is in full swing at La Costa, and our golf course maintenance team has been working hard to keep the golf courses and practice facility in optimal condition After a successful summer aerification on the North Course, the team shifted its focus to recovery practices on the South Fairways After several weeks of targeted agronomic practices on the South Course, we are now transitioning back into maintenance mode The team will focus on the details of both courses while managing the challenges posed by the summer heat
North Course:
The Bent grass greens continue to improve as moss and algae are being controlled on several of the greens
We have shifted our focus from uniform coverage to mitigating thatch and refining the surface of the Bermuda grass
We have been producing more clippings than usual in the Bermuda grass as we return to our growth regulator program after aerification recovery
Poa has been mostly eliminated from the course, with a few areas around the greens still needing treatment. We can expect some yellowing for a short time in the areas we have not yet sprayed.
Collar sod work has been completed on #1, and we will continue to re-sod the most contaminated collars.
South Course:
New irrigation pumps for the South Course are now operational and functioning at nearly maximum capacity
The team has been putting in long hours to restore the fairways and rough areas that had been lost
Some Fairway areas have recovered by laying sod, while other areas have been filled with sand, seed, and mulch to encourage recovery
The Poa greens are staying strong through the summer months but will be noticeably slower compared to the winter months.
The team will shift our focus from recovery practices to detailed work and trimming tasks.
We will begin to add sand to the worst bunkers, while adjusting irrigation heads around bunkers that retain the most amount of water.
Looking Ahead
Please excuse the extra clipping; we have been drivinggrowthandrecovery on both courses With the aerification and turf recovery efforts nearly complete, we will resume controlling growth and refining the surfaces.
Golfers may notice increased hand water ing and more micro emitters on both courses throughout the summer.
Unsightly scalping and excess clippings may occur on certain holes, which will be addressed by thinning the canopy.
Verticutting and topdressing practices will continue to be implemented to manage increased growth and to keep the playing surfaces refined and firm
Several key pieces of equipment have been purchased this summer that will allow our team to mitigate bicarbonate accumulation and perform essential agronomic practices more frequently

David Oas captured the 2026 Legends MGA Gross Club Championship with impressive rounds of 68 (South) and 73 (North) to finish at 3-under par, the only player in the field to finish under par. David also won the Net competition, claimed 1,000 Legends Player of the Year points, and won the Gross Championship by an incredible 12-shot margin.
