• Sue prepared the Youth Protection Guidelines meeting program this year. Instead of just using a slide show, she created a Jeopardy game for members to play. It was a much more fun way to be reminded of our obligations regarding how we interact with our Student Leadership Program members… for us… that’s our Key Club and Builders Club.

Youth Protection At Wednesday’s meeting we participated in our annual Youth Protection Training. Kiwanis International holds itself and its members to the highest standards of conduct and awareness. Each year, more than 300,000 youth take part in Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) such as K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club and Circle K. Kiwanis reaches millions more youth around the world through club and district service projects. When we work with and mentor youth during projects and activities, their care and welfare are entrusted to us. Kiwanis members must know how to protect the youth with whom we interact. When we all share this commitment, we also protect ourselves and the organization we value. Did you know… that Kiwanis partnered with the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking, to develop a curriculum for Key Club students to learn and promote healthy and safe communities. Students can complete four video courses to be certified as “Culture of Care Champions” and become facilitators for positive change in their school clubs and communities.

At-A-Glance

It was cold, but clear weather last Saturday for being outside, picking up trash with our AdoptA-Road program. We do this every year with the Sherwood Service Leadership Programs. Both Key Club and Builders Club members joined us, picking up two huge bags of items.

Thank you, George, for taking this “selfie” with the official city sign that identifies our SLP as the assigned entity for keeping the street clean!

Notice the masks… Unfortunately, we do not yet have parent permission to put recognizable Builders Club photos online

The Key Club Bake Sale on Saturday brought in $185. They had everything from apple pie to cake pops, cupcakes and MORE!

Two Key Club members doing service… on the left is a member delivering TOT for UNICEF boxes to businesses around town. On the right is one who is decorating clothespins with uplifting messages, getting ready for Random Acts of Kindness Day during Key Club Week.

• Recently, our club received a rather large bill from Kiwanis International for doing background checks for several of our members. If you were asked to do a background check in the past couple of months, (and you wish to help defray that cost to the club), please bring a check for $35, made out to Tigard Kiwanis, to an upcoming meeting.

If you were not at Wednesday’s Meeting… Please remember to read the Youth Protection 2-page document that was emailed to you on October 19. Once read, please email Sue to let her know you did so.

• Immediately after our meeting on Wednesday, November 4th we will meet at Community Warehouse (9806 SW Tigard St.) • They are expecting us by 1:30 p.m. for an envelope stuffing party. • If you couldn’t sign up at Wednesday’s meeting, then please email Jaclynn HERE to let her know you are planning to be there. She is notifying the Warehouse regarding how many of our members are planning to participate.

Some of our members give up their mornings, twice a week, ALL YEAR LONG to work at Packed with Pride, providing food for families in the Tigard School District. They pick up food at Winco, deliver it to the distribution center and then sort and repackage a lot of it. They often joke about the work they do there, and the “bad eggs” they have to cull. UGH! They are true heroes!
