Tigard Farmer’s Market

We continue to have a strong presence at the Tigard Farmer’s Market. We are thankful for the members who are regularly at our table, providing information about our program and doing a good job of interacting with the crowds. The Plinko game draws in children, whose parents watch, and as they watch, we talk to them about Kiwanis. At this past week’s market, we were able to take down the names of three potential members, each indicating a strong interest in joining with us. If you recall, the Plinko winners get to put points towards one of four causes we support. Those choosing are reminded, once again, of the good work we do. The list showcases a wide variety of our interests, including the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools, the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program, the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp and our Endowment Trust scholarship program. Our next time to be at the Farmer’s Market is Sunday, August 16th .

At-A-Glance

• Members supported the Parade & Festival last Saturday. Some walked in the parade; others helped with general set-up for the event. “Love Always Wins” banners were everywhere!

Tigard Farmers Market – Sunday

Between our table & the Key Clubbers with their face painting, we were quite busy on Sunday. Thank you to Chris, Dominic, Sue, George, Sheila and Jaclynn for time spent sharing our Kiwanis vision with those who stopped to say “hello”. Training

On Sunday afternoon, Siyi Liang provided a 2 ½ hour training session for the Key Club officers of the five clubs in Division 64. It was professional, well-presented and highly informational.

• It was a very special evening on Tuesday at the Sherwood Key Club annual Awards Night. Recognized were:

o “Active” members with at least 15 hours of service

o The “Top 3” service records from each grade level

o Members with at least 75% attendance at meetings

o Seniors with at least 15 hours of service received “Cords” to wear at graduation

o The 2025-26 officer team

o The 2025-26 senior officers

o The 2026-27 officer team

o The 2025-26 Lt. Governor

o The 2026-27 Lt. Governor

Slabtown Kiwanis Will Be Joining Our Club

• At Wednesday’s Board meeting it was decided to accept the Slabtown Kiwanis proposal to become a “Satellite Club” of Tigard Kiwanis. They will be “dissolving” as a club, and their members will be joining with us. However, as a satellite club, they can still maintain some of their own projects and hold their own meetings. But they will be official members of the Kiwanis Club of Tigard. The merging paperwork should be completed before the October 1st yearly leadership turnover.

There were over 20 attendees at Siyi’s first Division Council Meeting, held on Thursday at Sherwood High School. Activities included making cards for children at the Ronald McDonald House, decorating positive-message clothespins, playing getting-to-knowyou games and more!

Scholarships

• On Monday evening George Deibert will represent our club in awarding $4500 in scholarships. Three deserving Sherwood Key Clubbers will each receive $1500.

• Monday evening also provides an opportunity for us to get together with other Kiwanis clubs at our monthly Division Council Meeting. If you don’t want to attend in person at the Courtyard Village, you can join via Zoom. It starts at 6:30 p.m.

Our June 3rd meeting will focus on the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp

June 5th

Murrayhill Taphouse at 11:45 a.m.

MHKC Workday starts at 7:00 a.m.

• Come to the June 10th evening meeting at the Dragonfly Asian Bistro at 6:15 p.m. The guest presenter will be Siyi Liang, the Key Club Division 64 Lt. Governor.

This is a service project that benefits the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools. (Basically, we help at their Beer Garden.) We get free admission to the Balloon Festival. However, parking is expensive so we should carpool! George is already signed up for the 2:45 - 7 p.m. shift on Saturday.
