KDCCP Golf Tournament
The day started out misty and chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The Tigard Kiwanis Club team play was out of this world with the four old guys striking the ball with sometimes limited and sometimes wonderful success. We didn't win, but we also didn't come in LAST! It was the largest group of golfers ever for the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program tournament, so it was a great success for the program. One highlight for me was the presentation from KDCCP President Bruce Thomas to myself and Jim McElhinny each a framed presentation of every Hero pin ever designed for KDCCP going back to 1990. This wasacompletesurpriseandmuchappreciated. (I brought it to our Wednesday meeting.)

At-A-Glance
George did a great job of presenting our scholarship awards at Monday night’s Sherwood High School Senior Awards event. Our three recipients, Makaila, Emma and Naveen, were grateful for the support they received towards their future college expenses. Each received $1500 from our endowment trust.
June 3rd Meeting - Highlights
• It was an eventful meeting. John shared the framed “Hero” pins from KDCCP, (one for every year since 1990). Christie was given the Gnome; and Jaclynn drew the Queen of Spades and won $251 which she promptly donated back to the club!
• When we arrived, the CPAH bookshelves were mostly empty. We gave them over 300 books! Thank you to our Sherwood Key Clubbers who organized a book drive to help us with this project!
At our MHKC Workday on Friday, we met an old friend! George did outside work while Sheila & Sue were inside.
Hope to see as many members as possible at our June 10th evening Kiwanis meeting, being held at the Dragonfly Asian Bistro. Please be at 7700 SW Dartmouth St. in Tigard by 6:15 p.m.
Jaclynn, George and Sheila are all signed up to help at the Community Warehouse Block Party in Portland on Saturday, June 13th. If anyone else is interested in going with them, please let one of them know as soon as possible so they can get you on the worker list and organize your transportation as part of their carpool.
The following upcoming activities all have online sign ups
• Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market – This is another opportunity to raise funds for our club, at the same time as providing a needed service. Start time for the evening shift is at 4:50 and end time is 6:45 p.m. They pay $32 per shift. The first date is June 9th, and the market continues every Tuesday into September. Click HERE to sign up. (If you want to carpool, Sue is signed up for June 23 and June 30.)
• Tigard Balloon Festival – Help the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools raise funds for their programs by assisting at the Beer Garden. Click HERE to sign up to help any time from June 26th to the 28th . There are two slots left on Saturday from 2:45 to 7:00 p.m. (at the time you could carpool with George).
• Sunday Parkways – This is another opportunity to be of service, and to make some funds for club use. They pay $30 per shift. You can work a morning shift starting at 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or an afternoon shift starting at 12:30 to 4:00 p.m., (or you can sign up to work a FULL DAY, if you so choose.) The next Sunday Parkways is on June 28th in East Portland, (from Ventura Park to Verdell Burdine Rutherford Park). Click HERE to sign up.
If you recall…
• We voted as a club to support this cause. Each member indicated their preference for support… either to personally donate the $100 this year, or to fundraise the money. If you indicated that you would prefer to make a personal donation, it’s time to start thinking about how you wish to do that. The money needs to be in place by the beginning of October. Remember, you also need to pay next year’s dues by the beginning of October… so it might be wise to make this donation in July or August. A representative from Kiwanis International will be attending one of our July club meetings and will give us a heads up on the donation process, including how to donate directly online. At that time, we will also learn more about how our club can apply for a grant from the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.
