Recently, our students from the Sherwood Key Club have been doing projects with the residents at Merrill Gardens senior living facility. Last Monday, they held a session on creating origami figures. They all made origami frogs and then held a frog jumping contest. It was fun to see the teens and seniors having such a great time together! Just a few days before this event, they helped set up for a “Senior Prom”. One suggestion from a resident for a future project was to do a “training” on how they can better understand their cell phones!

• At our June 21st meeting speakers from the Washington County Volunteer Services shared several projects they spearhead. Of particular note:
o Considerable time was spent talking about the “Portland Diaper Bank” which is in dire need of financial support.
o On the fourth Monday of every month, they operate a “Free Food Market”; and they could use help with that event. We plan to further explore how we might support this activity, possibly on some kind of regular basis.
Below is a recently received letter from the pictured speaker. It would be great if we could form a group of members to volunteer on July 27th. There will be a sign-up sheet available at our July 1st meeting.

Thank you so much again for the opportunity to meet you all and to present to you all about the work Oregon Department of Human Services do and community needs. We deeply appreciate you all’s involvement and dedication to the community.
Last week during the meeting, some of you expressed interest in potentially volunteering at the Tigard Free Food Markets. In light of our upcoming 5th year celebration of the Free Food Markets in July, I’d like to reach out and see if any of you are interested in joining us at the event ��
The July event will be a special event because it is our 5th year of Free Food Markets. We’ll have Ceasar the No Drama Llama there, potentially grilled hot dogs for people who are there to get food, and extra food donated to us. I’m sure it will be extra fun!
The event is on Monday, July 27th. The morning shift (7:30-10:30am) is usually food processing, and the afternoon shift (1-3:30pm) is when the market opens to the public to distribute food and resources.
If anyone is interested, I can send out more information about the events �� We’ll be so thrilled if y’all can come join us!

Another Successful Bingo Night for FTTS
We had a good-sized group at last Wednesday night’s Beach Hut Deli Bingo Night, raising money for the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools and having a great time while doing it!
• Today, some of our members are helping the Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools with their Beer Garden fundraiser at the Tigard Balloon Festival.
• There are 2 slots left for helping on June 30th. You can join a carpool of those already going, if you wish. It’s “easy money” for the club… $32 for 2 hours. Arrival time is 4:50 p.m. HERE is the link to sign up.
What’s Coming Up?
• Tomorrow, we are traveling to East Portland for the Sunday Parkways event. Arrival time for our group is 9:45 a.m. at Ventura Park. Each contributing member makes $30 for club use!
• Come to our club meeting on July 1st at 11:45 a.m., at Murrayhill Taphouse.
• Quick update on what’s going on with finding a new place for Packed with Pride. The church has not sold, so they are able to stay on a month-to-month basis. However, the church is considering one offer. There would be a 6month escrow, so they could continue operating the program during that time. Whew! Meanwhile, PwP is taking a well-deserved break! There is NO Packed with Pride this week!
There are FIVE opportunities to help the Hillsboro Kiwanis with preparations for, and on the day of, their Pancake Breakfast
• On Monday, June 29th – help is needed with flower bed clean-up from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
• On Friday, July 3rd – people are needed to help with set-up from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
• On Saturday, July 4th – there is a service-shift from 6:30 to 10:00 a.m.
• On Saturday, July 4th – people can help with a tear-down shift from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
• On Saturday, July 4th – a final tear-down shift is happening from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

There is an upcoming Division Council Meeting being held at Courtyard Village, (or via Zoom). It’s on Monday, July 6th at 6:30 p.m.
The Tualatin Kiwanis Club needs help on Friday and Saturday, July 17th and 18th. You can sign-up for twohour shifts
• There is another Hillsboro Market on July 7th. You can sign up for as many weeks in advance as you wish. See page 4 for signup link.
• Our July evening meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8th. Please be at the Dragonfly Asian Bistro by 6:15 p.m.
• Check out the link to volunteer to help the Tualatin Kiwanis with their Elephant Ears booth at the Sherwood Robin Hood Festival. For the past several years they have used the funds they make with this project to support the division’s Key Club trips. This year, alone, they donated $1000 to our Tigard Club to support our efforts in sending chaperones and students to both District and International Conventions.

The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program. Students in 3rd to 12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
On every Wednesday in July, (starting onthe8th),from 12:15 to 2:00 p.m. Tanya will be assisting with OBOB activities at Roosevelt High School. If any other member would like to check this out, please contact Tanya at slabtowntours@gmail.com.
