Mayor Hu Speaks at Our Wednesday Meeting
The mayor’s presentation was very enlightening! His philosophy of “It’s all about community. We all need to chip in.” resonated with many of us. He talked about food security, and the $10,000 matching grant the city gave to Packed with Pride. He shared details about a literacy program being sponsored by the American Legion. He mentioned the difficult balancing act, where using public funds to increase social services often means decreased police and fire services. He stated that one of the biggest problems facing our citizens is providing affordable childcare options for our families. He would like to see financial help given to those who wish to start home-based childcare businesses. There was discussion based on the need for summer reading programs. Our challenge… “What can we do to help?”
