• Our speaker at Wednesday’s club meeting, from Circle K International (CKI), was delightful. She shared information about the PNW organization of college students working in the CKI branch of the Kiwanis Family. For example, did you know that their District Project is the Kiwanis SIGN Fracture Surgery program? She also connected with Robby to begin the process of possibly setting up a Circle K program on his campus!
On Friday, we had four Key Clubbers and one Kiwanis member show up to work the Food Bank shift. For most of the time, we put labels on plastic bags. But we were also able to weigh and bag some flour to be boxed up!

• Christie and Jaclynn have both signed up to help fundraise for the Foundation for TigardTualatin Schools by being at the King City Grocery Outlet on July 12th and 13th. They will be handing out discount coupons to people entering the store. (People using the coupons will be donating to the foundation.) We could use some other members helping with this project. The drive is only lasting during the month of July; and the last 15 days are currently empty of volunteers! Consider giving up one 2hour block of time, at your convenience, sometime in the next three weeks.
FTTS supports Packed with Price and provides funds for staffing and supplies to supplement the regular school programs in the district.
• Dates have been picked for the trips to the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp
o Saturday, August 8th – Our group of Sheila, Star and Cody are planning to leave at 7:00 a.m. and returning home about 2:00 p.m. They will be helping campers move their belongings, as this is the day they all go home. At least one more person would be welcome, and we still need to figure out who will be driving.
o Friday, August 14th – We will leave at 2:00 and get home around 9:00 p.m. We’ll be fixing and serving dinner to the campers, as well as watching their Friday Night Camp Show. George, Sheila, Star, Jaclynn and Sue are going.
• Save the date of Saturday, September 19th . They are bringing back the Salmon BBQ that our club traditionally held each year to fundraise for the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program. Our own Frank Morehouse is being honored, and our club has been asked to help with set-up, clean-up and more! They are selling 100 tickets for $100 each, and the event is being advertised throughout the PNW District. The BBQ will be held in Wilsonville. At Monday’s Division Council Meeting we learned the following about the KDCCP program:
o There are 16,000 children suffering from cancer, nation-wide.
o 20% do not live.
o The goal of KDCCP doctors is to find a way to predict the possibility of cancer when a child is in uterus, and to deal with the affliction at that time. Some success has occurred, as childhood leukemia used to have a 20% cure rate, rather than what is now an 80% cure rate.
o KDCCP funds two fellowships of doctors to research cures. Their salaries are paid, amounting to a total Kiwanis obligation of $170,000 per year.
o Current fundraising projects include two golf tournaments, bringing in about $45,000. There was the online “Explore Oregon & Southwest Washington” auction, which brought in about $5000. There is also the monthly donation program, which several members in our club do.
o They are considering the upcoming BBQ as a MAJOR fundraiser for KDCCP.
It won’t be long before you will all be receiving an email invitation to sign-up for the August 2nd Sunday Parkways. Please consider helping with this club service project/fundraiser.
At next week’s meeting, we’ll take our final sign-ups for the July 31st Food Bank service project. That’s a Friday from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. If you can’t make the meeting but would like to help… please click HERE to email Robby that you wish to be added to the list.
