Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market It’s coming to the end of the summer, and our opportunities to raise funds for our club doing service projects like the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market and Sunday Parkways are diminishing. While both require a little travel, as well as time, both projects have been fun, and lucrative for our club. At this past Hillsboro Market, Sue got to spend her shift watching people in the community paint a mural to be enjoyed by future visitors to their downtown plaza area. It was a joy to see people of all ages volunteer to beautify their community. As for Sunday Parkways, the final event is being held on September 13th. If you wish to help with this project, your job will be to stop traffic on the streets of downtown Portland. CLICK HERE to sign up.

Do you remember recently receiving an email message from Chris, our Treasurer? He sent you an invoice for the club’s once-a-year dues payment. Please don’t miss the September 30th deadline.
• Please, if at all possible, try to attend this coming Wednesday’s meeting! Jaclynn has arranged for a member of the Kiwanis International staff to talk to us, via Zoom, about how our club might write a grant proposal to receive funds to support an upcoming club project! If you can’t attend in-person, attend via Zoom! So, even if you are at work, see if you can be there just long enough to hear the presentation. Jaclynn will send out an email with the Zoom link, so please look for it in your inbox.
Put Your Thinking Caps On… If we want to write a grant proposal to utilize Possibility Project funds, then we need to come up with a project that we feel is important. So… what do we think is important? (We are in no way limited to the following. Please treat the next statement as an editorial comment.) There has been a lot of past discussions from members regarding reading literacy projects. We’ve considered doing Little Free Libraries in laundromats, buying dictionaries for third graders, sponsoring students for tutoring, and more! If we choose to write a grant proposal, we’re going to need club members willing to dedicate some time and effort into envisioning whatever special project we choose. In addition, part of the process for writing a successful proposal is to help fund a portion of the project ourselves… so we will need to come up with some effective fundraisers. Also, we are expected to partner with other organizations, businesses, (entities). So, we need to think about how to make that happen. I am excited, because I think our club has the member dedication, enthusiasm and capability of doing something special like putting together a Possibility Project activity to benefit our community!
