We are working on getting our worker sign-ups for the Mother’s Day Flower deliveries. If you weren’t at Wednesday’s meeting, expect an email from Sue asking if you can help. Primarily, we need drivers the Saturday before Mother’s Day.
Wednesday’s Meeting
Melissa Endicott, from the Tigard Farmer’s Market, was our speaker at Wednesday’s lunchtime meeting. She shared that over 100 vendors work booths at the market, held each summer Sunday at the Universal Plaza in Tigard. This year they operate May 3 to October 25. On May 3rd, they are having a Star Wars theme. They try to have their market support small, local businesses. In addition to us having a table there, we can volunteer to assist as greeters and attendance trackers at the three entrances. The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
• The vote to reduce the number of Club Directors was very close. 10 members voted in favor and 7 voted against. A 2/3 majority was needed; so, it ended up with us keeping 5 Directors.
We had a great time at the Foundation for TigardTualatin Schools Bingo Night! The prizes were these beautiful flowers donated by Al’s Garden Center. Karen Deibert won two pots of flowers!
Between our Kiwanis and the Key Clubbers, there were hundreds of items donated!
The audience was smaller than hoped, but Zootopia was a delight to watch. Key Clubbers organized and advertised the event, which was held at a local elementary school on Friday night. That night they helped with set-up and clean-up and brought in refreshments.
• TODAY is a nice day for doing a good deed for a child whose life has been threatened by cancer. Put a smile on a child’s face by showing up to the Courtyard Village to help with the Fantasy Yarn Wigs project! Start times are 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Although… help is needed with set-up at 9:00. If anyone wants to show up then, there is plenty to do! The address is 4875 SW 78th Ave.
• TODAY is a nice day for doing a good deed for a child in the public education system. Attend the “Walk on the Wild Side Gala” being sponsored by the Foundation for the Tigard-Tualatin Schools. Be at the Oregon Zoo Cascade Ballroom at 5:00 p.m. in cocktail attire. It costs $20 for a ticket, and you can purchase them by Clicking HERE. There is a no host bar and appetizers being served.

Members … Don’t forget the Board Meeting scheduled for Wednesday night via Zoom at 7:00 p.m.
• The Chair Affair for the Community Warehouse is on Thursday, April 23rd. Members will be doing a variety of tasks in support of the event. For those helping, don’t forget that the dress code is party attire, and arrival time is 4:30 p.m.
Reminder: There is NO Food Bank event on April 25th. The session was cancelled by the Food Bank.
Spend an hour with these students and come away inspired by the fact that our club’s generosity opened a lot of young eyes to a “broader world” of service!
• Scholarship applications are due on the 27th of April. The committee will be reviewing applications on make decisions regarding the recipients. There is $4200 from the Foundation Trust available to award. The committee recommended that the minimum given out will be three $1500 scholarships. • NEW EVENT: The Sherwood Key Club cordially invites the Tigard Kiwanis to a “District Convention Recap” being held at the Sherwood H.S. Community Room at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26th. Come find out why our club’s financial support of them attending DCON is making a difference in both their lives and in the world at-large!
• We have 7 members planning to attend the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp Gala on Friday, May 1st. It’s a dressy affair, starting at 6:00 p.m. More details to come as we get closer to the date.
