It was a rare day in the “warm room” last Saturday, and we all got hot in our “cold room” gear! But it felt good because the work we did provided 138 meals of dried pinto beans per person. The 12 of us who were there comprised three-fourths of the workers that afternoon!
We had 8 Kiwanis and 4 Key Clubbers
• If you recall, our Kiwanis club has promised the Tigard Community for Affordable Housing some children’s books to add to their various facility libraries. We approached the Key Club for help in gathering books. Here are their plans… they are asking the principals of four elementary schools and one middle school in Sherwood to place articles in their parent newsletters seeking book donations. The drive will take place the week of May 4-8. The Key Clubbers hope to bring the books to our May 13th club meeting. Bring the books to our May 13th club meeting. But they need small boxes, or paper grocery bags for transporting the books. If you have any boxes or bags that you might give them, please let Sue know, so she can make arrange to get them from you! Or you can bring them to the May 6th meeting.
We hosted the April 6th Division Council Meeting
Jaclynn, Sue, George and Christie explained about our table at the Tigard Farmer’s Market last summer; they told how we used a Plinko game and other strategies to draw in people.
We had a record crowd of 16 people at our meeting last Wednesday. The LTG, Delanie Delimont, eloquently spoke about the benefits of attending conferences.
Susie Meyer, Delanie Delimont & our own Sue Cummins spent most of Thursday practicing to be able to teach others how to create the Fantasy Yarn Wigs!

• At our April 15th meeting we will be fortunate to have the Market Manager of the Tigard Farmer’s Market as our speaker. Our experience with the Market was a positive one last year. Speaking of the Market, we’ll be attempting to do another several Sunday sessions this year. Jaclynn has put out the word that we are asking for ideas to have a “new look” to our table … to maybe do something slightly different. Any ideas?
• Voting to reduce the number of Directors on our club Board will take place at the April 15th meeting. Email ballots, for those can’t attend the meeting, will be distributed on April 12th ; and they MUST be returned by midnight on April 14th .
• Show up on Wednesday, April 15th , between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. for a good cause, good food and good fun! Help raise money for the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools at 12436 SW Main St., Tigard. $16 gets you six bingo cards. It doesn’t get better than this… earn service hours by playing games!
• Here is another opportunity to do a good deed and earn service hours simply by showing up and having a good time! The Sherwood Key Club is sponsoring a Movie Night at the Archer Glen Elementary School. Bring your own chair. Bring your willingness to be around a lot of spirited children! Enjoy a classic Disney movie. There is no charge, but donations will be gratefully accepted! Most of the funds collected that night will be used to pay off the Key Club debt owed Sue for their attendance at District Convention!
Help a young child face chemotherapy-induced hair loss with a smile! The Greater Portland Area Division leaders have worked hard for nearly two years to prepare for this event, where the attempt will be made to create at least 20 Disney-themed wigs made with yarn appropriate for sensitive skin. Show up at the Courtyard Village for one, (or both shifts), on Saturday, April 18th. Be there at 10:00 and/or 1:00 p.m. and do a good deed for a child in need! Let’s make sure that the Tigard Kiwanis are well represented at this division-wide project!
• Here are details about the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools “Walk on the Wild Side” being held on April 18th. Be at the Oregon Zoo, Cascade Ballroom from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Wear cocktail attire, (with an animal flair)! There will be a no-host bar with snacking on appetizers, as well as various fun activities.
