KRUG, VINTAGE 2013

A GIANT RELEASE & STRONG BUY INVESTMENT

We are pleased to offer our tiny allocation of Krug 2013, an extraordinary release that stands as a true testament to the artistry of Champagne. Crafted in a year of dramatic contrasts, the 2013 vintage is the result of a meticulous journey—from a late start and challenging growing season to a harvest that delivered exceptional purity, structure, and finesse.

6x75cl - £1,470 in bond

Krug 2013 is a high-value investment with a proven track record, making this release a STRONG BUY option. As the strongest-performing Champagne brand on Liv-Ex’s 2025 Power 100 (ranked 6th, up from 37th in 2024), Krug is outperforming its peers in market price and average trade price, delivering consistently strong returns, even during the recent market downturn of 2022-2025.

Released in very small quantities at £1,470 per 6x75 in bond, Krug 2013 offers investors the chance to own a prized asset within, and key component of the Champagne 50 index, a market which has arrested the slump of the past two and a half years and has now posted six months of gains.

For context, Krug Vintage 2006 and 2008 have posted year-to-date appreciation of 3.6% and 3.3% respectively; both scored 97 points by Antonio Galloni. We anticipate that when critical scores are released, Krug 2013 will match or even out-score 97 points, such has been the excitement around the quality of this release. Early critical reviews have averaged 99 points.

FURTHER RELEASE INFORMATION

Krug’s very rare vintage releases have delivered handsomely for investors, even during trying times as seen across the past two to three years. To bear that out, over the past five years, of which three were a downturn equivalent to 50% depreciation, the Champagne 50 index has delivered a net return of 15.8%.

Set against that, Krug 2004 has outperformed that market with a return of 18.6%, and Krug 2006 has delivered an enormous 32.8% return, outperforming its peer group by more than double.

To drive home the sheer investment value of Krug’s vintage releases, the 2008 vintage has remained precisely flat at 0% growth across the past two years, during a period in which the wider index has shed 14% of its value.

In short, Krug Vintage represents a proven store of value, hedge against inflation and a safe haven against downturns. With the market looking like it is now recovering well, this exceptional Krug 2013 release, available at a 23% discount to the 2008 is an overwhelmingly STRONG BUY option, especially given its small production levels which will exacerbate the inverse supply curve which drives Fine Wine appreciation.

The 2013 growing season at Krug was marked by pronounced contrasts and challenges, ultimately culminating in a harvest of exceptional character. The year began with a cold, wet winter and a cool, rainy spring, which delayed budburst and flowering, pushing the vine’s growth cycle back by about two weeks. Flowering was uneven and late, leading to reduced yields, particularly for Chardonnay in the Côte des Blancs. However, July and August brought exceptionally hot and dry weather, promoting rapid grape maturity, and September rains helped the berries swell before drier conditions allowed for optimal ripening.

Harvest commenced on September 25th and extended through October 16th, a window that allowed for the careful selection of grapes at optimal ripeness. The result was a collection of superb Chardonnay, displaying crystalline purity and finesse; Pinot Noir, notable for its structure and restraint; and Meunier, contributing both length and subtlety to the blend.

Krug 2013 is composed of 41% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay, and 21% Meunier. Each varietal was vinified in small individual plots, the hallmark of Krug’s meticulous approach, allowing the distinct character of each parcel and each village to be preserved and ultimately harmonised in the final assemblage.

After more than 12 years resting in the serenity of Krug’s cellars, this vintage is now poised to take its place among the House’s most distinguished releases.
