Brain Potential Program

Edition August 2026

THE WORD WAS THERE. AND THEN IT WASN’T. You are mid-sentence and the name goes. A colleague of fifteen years. A word you have used a thousand times. It returns three minutes later, and you carry on. It happens to everyone. That is what you tell yourself, and it is true. But something has changed in how you receive it. You used to laugh. Now you make a note of it. You remember that it happened last month as well. Somewhere along the way you began keeping a private count — one you have mentioned to no one. You are not ill. You are not declining. You are simply no longer certain, and there is nowhere to take the uncertainty. Your doctor will tell you it is normal. Your family will tell you not to worry. Neither of them is measuring anything.

WHAT UNSETTLES YOU IS NOT THE FORGETTING. IT IS NOT KNOWING WHETHER IT MEANS ANYTHING.

MOST PEOPLE BELIEVE THIS IS SIMPLY WHAT AGEING DOES. THE EVIDENCE SAYS OTHERWISE. In a national survey of more than three thousand adults over forty, 58% said they believed cognitive decline is inevitable, and two-thirds expected to experience it themselves 1 . Almost half thought it likely they would develop dementia. Fewer than a third believed that how they live could meaningfully change that 2. The published evidence points the other way. The 2024 Lancet Commission on dementia prevention concluded that around 45% of dementia cases worldwide are potentially preventable by addressing fourteen modifiable risk factors across the life course 3 — among them blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, physical inactivity, sleep, hearing, and social isolation. And the biology moves long before the symptoms do. The structural and molecular changes associated with cognitive decline begin to accumulate fifteen to twenty years before anything becomes apparent4 — which means the window in which the trajectory is most responsive is precisely the window most people spend waiting for a reason to act.

THE

ASSUMPTION

W H AT T H E E V I D E N C E S H O W S

>

A substantial share of risk is modifiable — and modifiable earlier than most people assume.

Nothing can be done until symptoms appear. >

Structural change is measurable long before symptoms, and most responsive at that stage.

Decline is inevitable.

Memory is the thing to watch.

>

Memory is a late signal. Vascular, metabolic, inflammatory and sleep processes move first.

Brain health is a question for later life.

>

The midlife decades are when the trajectory is most open to change.

A cognitive test tells you where you stand.

>

A cognitive test measures output. Imaging and biology measure the substrate producing it.

Brain Potential Program

A PU BL ISHED MODEL OF BR A IN HE A LT H. T WO Y E A R S IN T HE M A K ING . Brain Potential did not begin as a program. It began as a research question. Over two years, Clinique La Prairie’s Longevity Innovation department worked with the Laboratory for Research in Neuroimaging (LREN) at Lausanne University Hospital — CHUV — to establish what brain health actually is, how it can be measured, and which of its determinants can be changed. The collaboration was led on the CHUV side by Associate Professor Bogdan Draganski, Director of LREN and a member of Clinique La Prairie’s Independent Scientific Committee. The work culminated in a peer-reviewed publication in Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews — an open-access synthesis of the evidence linking lifetime exposures to brain trajectories in ageing. From it emerged the scientific model on which this program is built. Its central proposition is this: brain health is not a single faculty to be tested. It is the outcome of five determinants — each measurable, and each modifiable.

I — NUTRITION W H AT R E A C H E S T H E B R A I N

Diet composition, micronutrient status and the gut–brain axis shape neuronal function and the inflammatory environment the brain operates in.

II — PHYSICAL ACTIVITY W H AT S U S TA I N S I T S S T R U C T U R E

Movement drives cerebral perfusion and neurotrophic signalling, and is associated with the maintenance of grey matter volume.

III — SLEEP W H E N T H E B R A I N C L E A R S A N D C O N S O L I D AT E S

Sleep architecture governs memory consolidation and the overnight clearance of metabolic by-products.

IV — CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH W H AT T H E B R A I N R E C E I V E S

The brain is a vascular organ. Blood pressure, lipids and vessel integrity determine its supply — and appear in imaging as white matter change.

V — IMMUNE HEALTH W H A T Q U I E T LY E R O D E S I T

Chronic low-grade inflammation is among the most consistent correlates of accelerated brain ageing.

M E A S U R ED TO G E TH ER Not one at a time. The determinants interact. Poor sleep raises inflammation; inflammation impairs vascular function; vascular change alters cognition. Brain Potential assesses and addresses all five in a single week.

Brain Potential Program

BR AIN POTENTIAL IS NOT A MEMORY TEST. IT IS A CLINICAL READING OF YOUR BR AIN’S TR AJECTORY. Cognitive questionnaires tell you how you performed on a Tuesday morning. They cannot tell you what your brain looks like, what is driving the result, or where the curve is heading. Brain Potential measures the substrate — brain volume, white matter integrity, vascular status, inflammatory and metabolic biology, genomic ageing markers — and then intervenes across all five determinants under continuous medical supervision. Seven days in Montreux, followed by a protocol designed to continue for years.

MONTREUX, SWITZERL AND WHERE THE SCIENCE WAS MADE.

Brain Potential is delivered at Montreux alone. This is not a limitation — it is a condition of the program. The neuroimaging capability, the volumetric analysis software and the neurological expertise the model requires exist here, and the laboratory where that model was developed is thirty minutes along the lake. Clinique La Prairie’s historical home, on the shore of Lake Léman with the Alps behind. The flagship — where nearly a century of Swiss longevity science was developed, and where the Brain Potential program was conceived. Here the setting is alpine: still water, mountain air, the discipline of Swiss landscape. The atmosphere is one of quiet precision — and the environment itself contributes, through sleep, movement and stillness, to the determinants the program is built on.
