Reducing the tax paid on draught beer which is destined for the pub could create more than 8,000 extra jobs and result in a £265 million boost to the national economy, according to new research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr). Pubs and breweries are amongst the most heavily taxed business sectors in the UK, generating over £15 billion of tax revenues for the Exchequer each year. UK
has the second-highest beer duty compared to EU member states; and for context, British drinkers paid the highest beer duty [£180 million] of any EU country represented at the European football championships which took place during the summer.
