Prime Minister Andy Burnham has confirmed a 20% cut to business rates for pubs, clubs and live music venues from April, in a move Downing Street says is designed to ease cost pressures on hospitality businesses and breathe new life into struggling high streets. The government said the change would help reverse years of decline in which pubs, social clubs and live music venues — long-standing pillars of local high

streets — have too often been replaced by shuttered premises and "for sale" signs. Full eligibility criteria are expected to be set out at Chancellor John Healey's first Budget this autumn. Around 32,000 venues are expected to benefit, with the typical pub set to save an estimated £1,100 over the next financial year.
