World Cup Windfall Starts Before Kick-Off “Be Ready” Operators Urged Britain’s pubs, bars and hospitality operators are being urged to rethink traditional matchday trading strategies ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, as new industry research reveals the biggest commercial opportunity may come before kick-off rather than after the final whistle. Research published ahead of the tournament paints a clear and commercially urgent picture: the money is made in the build-up, not the aftermath.
The research from hospitality consultancy The Oxford Partnership, draws on Oxford Market Watch trading data from England's Euro 2024 fixtures, which found that beer volume peaks decisively in the one to two hours immediately before kick-off, remains broadly stable during play, and falls sharply once the final whistle sounds.
