Government proposals to introduce a tourist levy in England, announced in threKing’s Speech earlier this week have drawn fierce opposition from the hospitality industry, with UKHospitality warning the so-called Holiday Tax Bill could deliver a £1.6 billion blow to consumers while simultaneously damaging the wider economy and threatening jobs across the sector. The trade body has cautioned that the legislation — confirmed through its
inclusion in the King's Speech — represents a significant Government U-turn, with the added cost burden estimated at £100 for a typical family fortnight break. The warning comes at a particularly sensitive time for operators, with consumers already under sustained pressure from the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
