Restaurants Return to Growth in March... But Pub Sales Slow as Cost Fears Mount
Britain’s managed hospitality groups brought a challenging first quarter to a close with only modest momentum, as restaurants edged ahead of the wider market in March, according to the latest NIQ RSM Hospitality Business Tracker. The data—produced by NIQ, powered by CGA, in association with RSM— shows like-for-like restaurant sales rose by 2.5% compared with March 2025,
offering a tentative indication of resilient consumer demand for eating out. The uplift was supported in part by key calendar occasions, including Mother’s Day, which encouraged celebratory spending. In contrast, pub groups recorded marginal growth of just 0.2% despite a mid-month boost from St Patrick’s Day.
