The Department for Business and Trade and the Home Office have issued a call for evidence as part of a fast-track review - or “four-week blitz” – of what the Government says are “outdated” licensing rules, and builds on the Licensing Taskforce recommendations and the government’s response and supports the government’s commitment to reduce regulatory burdens by 25% by the end of this Parliament. This call for evidence focuses on the ‘on trade’ in relation to alcohol sales, for
example pubs, restaurants and nightclubs, and on all entertainment licensed under the Licensing Act 2003. For years, the government has said, red tape has made it harder for pubs to serve food outside, host live music, or even stay open, with some historic venues forced to shut over noise complaints or outdated advertising rules. Now, a fourweek Call for Evidence is giving people the chance to help fix it.
