Testing & Certification Physical security concern four main areas: Deterring intruders, detecting and delaying attackers and responding to an attack LPS 1175 is the Loss Prevention Certification Board standard for physical security, including intruder resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and freestanding barriers Issue 8 of the LPS 1175 standard was issued in November 2020. The new classifications are shown in the table below
Understanding the Classifications The standard uses different tool kits and durations to categorise security ratings. Tools in category A include pliers, screwdrivers and spanners, adds bolt cutters and drills, C includes crowbars, hacksaws and torches, and D introduces sledgehammers, grinders and jigsaws The delay, indicated by the number, corresponds with the minimum delay in minutes provided by the product

Understanding PAS 68 Ratings PAS 68 ratings combine letters, numbers and symbols to explain how a product performs under impact testing. Here’s what they mean:
Test Method V - Tested with a real vehicle D - Simulated/Design test P - Pendulum test
Vehicle Type & Mass Shows the vehicle category (e.g. M1 = Passenger car) and its mass in kilograms
Test Speed Indicates the impact speed (km/h). Common test speeds range from 48-80 km/h
Impact Angle Usually 90°, showing the direction of the vehicle strike
Impact Penetration
The distance the vehicle travels past the barrier before stopping. Acceptable limite depend on “stand-off” distance between the barrier and the protected site
Debris Dispersion Distance travelled by debris over 25kg. Included for engineering reference, though not used in IWA 14-1
Choosing the Right Solution No single HVM product suits every site. factors like foundations, traffic flow, and operations affect suitability. A Vehicle Dynamic Assessment (VDA) - carried out by a Security Consultant or Counter Terrorism Security Advisor - identifies threats, vulnerabilities, and approach speeds We provide a fulll range of PAS 68 and IWA 14-1 rated solutions

This £2.5 million project spans nine miles and is part of a larger redevelopment and investment initiative for the base, home to the Royal Navy’s Merlin helicopters.

Results Over three years, we collaborated with design teams to become the specified manufacturer for the project, ensuring the correct products met stringent security requirements before finalising contracts. We focused on managing deliveries and logistics to stay on schedule and identify improvement opportunities. The installation of this third-generation system will enhance security at the base and deter unauthorised access. Additionally, the project includes a landscaping initiative that will plant 6,600 native trees, shrubs, and bushes to improve aesthetics and respect the area’s natural beauty.
We are pleased to have begun work replacing the nine-mile perimeter fence at RNAS Culdrose, a significant project for the base. We are also planting thousands of native treesand bushes to screen the area. This initiative is essential for enhancing security while preserving the natural beauty of this outstanding location.
