NURSERY OPEN WORKSHOP Physical development focus

LOVELY LEAF CHARACTERS Create a leaf character to take home. Pick a leaf and add features using the materials. This activity develops hand–eye coordination by placing objects in specific positions. It also encourages dexterity by picking up small materials.

LEAVES ON THE LINE Children pick up a leaf and use a peg to place it on the washing line. Help them squeeze the ends of the peg and position it correctly on the line. This activity develops finger strength and hand–eye coordination. It is also good practice in manipulating objects and tools, supporting the use of pencils, scissors, and cutlery. If your child has a dominant hand, challenge them to use their non-dominant hand to squeeze the pegs.

AUTUMN TWEEZERS Use tweezers (or hands for younger children) to move acorns, pinecones, and leaves from the tuff tray to a pot. This activity develops a pincer grip, which is essential for holding a pencil. It also supports hand–eye coordination by moving objects from one place to another.
