At Claremont, we want every pupil to be happy, engaged and successful. That is why our GCSE curriculum offers a wealth of choice, allowing pupils to select subjects that suit their strengths and future aspirations. From Year 9, pupils begin their GCSE studies on a three-year journey, giving them more time to enjoy the subjects they love, build knowledge steadily and flourish at a pace that supports both achievement and wellbeing.
Our extended GCSE structure means optional subjects can be studied in depth, without feeling rushed. There is more time for enrichment, stretch and challenge and space to embed essential skills. Pupils can take advantage of new subjects, new teachers and new teaching groups, making the start of this academic journey exciting and engaging.
We encourage pupils to discuss their subject choices carefully with teachers and family. Do not worry if friends choose different options; this is an opportunity to identify the subjects in which individuals can truly excel. The Joyce Grenfell academic enrichment programme offers our pupils a range of extra timetabled qualifications in the sixth form, with wider enrichment experiences throughout each term. It has been designed to foster independent, creative thinking and intellectual curiosity alongside research and extended writing skills.
The sixth form programme falls within our core academic curriculum and allows students to gain additional qualifications outside of their A level subject choices and extra points towards their overall UCAS score.
As part of our enrichment programme, our Inspire lectures provide the opportunity for our pupils to hear the unique perspective of trailblazers and thought leaders, drawn from far ranging disciplines and careers. Our guest speakers all have remarkable stories and career journeys to share to expand the horizons and aspirations of our pupils. Example speakers include a triple Paralympian, a director of forensic psychology and a professor of technology and AI.
On offer is the highly respected Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) alongside a range of other qualifications such as TEFL, LAMDA, Maths GCSE resit, Russian for beginners, STEM Gold crest award, CISI financial services award, sports coaching qualifications and the English Speaking Board: Advanced Certificate in Spoken English.
At GCSE, the programme also includes the Higher Project Qualification which is seen as excellent preparation for A Level and university study. We also pro- vide higher education support, with an emphasis on preparing students for high-level university applications, as well as applications for Law, Engineering, Medical Sciences, Oxbridge and the United States.
In addition, the wider Joyce Grenfell enrichment programme coordinates a series of internal and external academic competitions including TED talks and podcasts, Inspire guest lectures, Aspire tutorial programme, workshops, trips and a myriad of other opportunities for students throughout every year group.

Children of all abilities thrive in sport at Claremont, where every pupil is encouraged to enjoy being active, try new skills and take part with confidence. With expert coaches, a rich curricular and co-curricular programme, outstanding on-site facilities (including pitches, courts, athletics areas, an archery range, a full-size sports hall, two swimming pools and even table tennis in the playground), sport is always within easy reach.
We are finalising a visionary masterplan for the coming decades which will ensure our facilities provide pupils with the most enriching learning experience possible in an inspirational setting. In the meantime, we have ensured our resources have been carefully apportioned to initiatives that benefit the whole school community immediately, including:
New music rooms - opened January2025
We are thrilled with our new music teaching and performance spaces located in the historic coach houses of Stable Court. The architectural features of these buildings have been carefully restored and adapted to provide a contemporary, bright and airy home for music at Claremont.
Joyce Grenfell centre upgrade
Refurbishment of the Joyce Grenfell centre theatre has begun with state-ofthe-art stage lighting and sound installations. The next exciting phase of this project later this year will see further lighting upgrades, rigging and pull-out seating to increase audience capacity and comfort. These developments will deliver a theatre space to match the quality, ambition and professionalism of our students’ productions – from nursery right up to sixth form.
Sixth form centre expansion
With a 200-strong sixth form cohort, we have doubled the size of the sixth form centre this summer. Thanks to an innovative transformation of underused areas in the Joyce Grenfell Centre, a bright and contemporary quiet study space is now a stand-out feature of the sixth form experience at Claremont.
Claremont benefits from 13 sports pitches, two sports halls and a fitness suite on our site. With the benefit of having purchased a significant neighbouring property, we are working up options for all-weather sports facilities including a covered swimming pool.
