The shock of it all 1.

Throughout the typical day ('typical' ha!) you'll move between ecstatic and tearful - all while being so full of love for this beautiful new life, that you think you might just burst You'll never regret it, though I mean you will, but it never lasts long

Your life is no longer yours. You don’t have to give up everything, but you’ll come to realise that it’s just not about YOU anymore. How did THAT happen?!

You’llwanttorepeatsome wofthelovelythingsthat eredoneforyou, andyou’llbedeterminedto avoidcertainthingsthatyou experienced. Butasyou’refiguringallofthisout, you getCUDDLES!

This is one of the toughest things to get used to. You’re in the deepest sleep EVER, but when you hear that little cry, you ’ ve got to help. You might be there for a while - rocking and hoping that they fall back to sleep.

Don’t worry though, it’s only a few more years until you can get a decent sleep. Seriously though, we’re all going through it together and you need to know you’re not alone in this. And after you’ve ever-so-carefully put the little one back down and tip-toed away, you might have to start getting ready for work. Or if you’re staying home, then probably a certain someone is not going to let you catch up on that sleep you just . missed

What we’re doing is important, and these ‘down-sides’ are just something we’ve got to go through. Kind of like ‘a rite of passage’

- some day you can say “I know what you ’ re going through” ....and that carries meaning!

3. The crying

This is a BIG one if you ’ not been around babi much before.

My top tip - sounds daft but TALK to someone close to you about how it’s making you feel....it’s a uniquely maddening experience. Speak about it and it gets easier.

So imagine my surprise when the crying often went on for hours (he had pretty bad reflux for 5 long months)

The little moments

I heard this long before I had children and I thought it was a bit mad if I’m honest .....but it’s really true:

The first few months and years are full of so much mad, chaotic drama, that when a special moment happens, you’ve got to make sure you savour it.

For me, it’s when either of mine give me a cuddle, or give me a genuine smile. It makes all the madness pale into insignificance.
