Minneapolis, Minnesota developed in the mid19th century around St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River, which powered sawmills and later made the city a global center of flour milling. Incorporated in 1867, it grew rapidly with the expansion of railroads, immigration, and industry, becoming one of the largest cities in the Upper Midwest.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Minneapolis transitioned toward a diverse economy focused on finance, healthcare, arts, and education, while playing a prominent role in national conversations about civil rights and social justice.

Opened in 1974 as the home of the Minnesota Orchestra, Minneapolis’s Orchestra Hall is a renowned cultural landmark celebrated for its modernist architecture by Hugh Hardy, exceptional acoustics designed by Cyril M Harris, and distinctive “falling rock” ceiling that enhances sound throughout the auditorium.
