Nikau Street – upcoming works and traffic changes • A series of closures planned for a portion of Nikau Street (between Flower and Korari Street) between May – to the start of September this year • Diverting overhead power cables and the existing Huia 2 transmission watermain that runs along Nikau Street • The window to complete this work is in keeping with Watercare’s restrictions for service diversion to take place over the winter months • Pedestrian access along the length of Nikau Street will be maintained

Normanby Road Closure • Road closure required to construct road-over-rail bridge which replaces level crossing • Road to be closed from 2nd June 2021 to early 2022 • Improvements at Mt Eden Road/Boston Road intersection and at Mt Eden Road/Normanby Road intersection • The closure of Normanby Road means that no vehicles can cross over the rail tracks • Able pedestrians may cross over the rail tracks via the temporary services bridge

Tunnel Boring Machine Key information • The TBM has three jobs underground: excavating the tunnels, removing dirt and rocks to the surface, and installing precast concrete panels that will line the tunnel walls • While the TBM is underground, people above it will feel little to no impacts. This is because it is an Earth Pressure Balanced TBM – it controls and balances the pressure of the earth it excavates which stabilises the tunnel face and reduces any possibility of settlement occurring • To operate the TBM, there will be a crew on board of around 12 people including electricians, mechanics, and drivers. Another team of workers will support the excavation on the surface at the Mt Eden Station construction site

Spoil routes Key information • As the TBM bores the tunnels, it excavates spoil which will be transferred onto a conveyor belt system located behind the TBM and out onto site • On average, 1,500 tonnes of spoil will be excavated per day • Most of the spoil that is then transported off the Mt Eden site will be from the TBM drive • The volume of spoil transported off site, on any given day, during TBM operations will be similar to what was previously transported off site in a day during peak excavation (second half of 2020).

Spoil routes • On weekdays during the morning and evening commuting peak hours (7.00am – 9.30am and 3.00pm – 5.00pm) trucks that carry cleanfill spoil from the Mt Eden sites are using State Highway SH16 and SH20 to access the Three Kings Quarry (from Mt Albert Road via Hillsborough Road off ramp)
• From Monday to Friday between 9.30am – 3.00pm, outside of the commuting peak periods, trucks are travelling via Mt Eden Road to Three Kings Quarry • Trucks will also travel south via SH16, SH20 and SH1 to additional spoil disposal sites in Mercer at other times • Trucks travelling via SH16, SH20 and SH1 will use Symonds Street and Newton Road or Boston Road and Khyber Pass Road to access the state highways, as well as New North Road, St Lukes Road or Dominion Road at times. 25
• To enable trucks to reach the arterial routes and state highways, streets surrounding the Mt Eden construction sites are also be used as part of the designated routes
• Truck routes are subject to change and are often dependent on the shortest and safest route possible at the time. 26
• Truck movements in and out of site are scheduled between our regular construction hours of 7am – 7pm Monday to Saturday. • No Sunday, overnight or early morning movements are planned unless otherwise notified • Strict control measures are in place to minimise dust and prevent soil from being dispersed onto roads

24/7 supporting activity on Mt Eden site • Once underground, the TBM will be supported by the surface crew based at Mt Eden • The Mt Eden site will be ‘base-camp’ for the TBM and the equipment and systems required to operate it • These supporting activities will also take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Mt Eden construction site • Supporting activities include the conveyor belt, tower crane and multi service vehicle travelling in and out of the tunnel
