Topic Contract 1 introduction – Dale Burtenshaw Introduction to Contract 1 Joint Venture (JV) comprising Downer NZ and Soletanche Bachy with designers Tonkin + Taylor and AECOM. Public Art (PADWP) C1 – Rachel Purdy There are 4 pieces of public art within or close to the C1 Project area (Britomart). No public art is located within or close to the C2 Project Footprint (Albert Street).
The forest of stainless steel trees and the basalt waterfall within the Britomart Transport Centre will be removed prior the commencement of construction, stored and reinstated following the completion of the Project.

Minutes or Action Points Te Ahi Kaa Roa located in QEII Square will be removed, stored and re-sited following the completion of the Project. The Maori Warrior located on Quay Street is outside of the Project footprint and will not be impacted by the works. TC: Will the waterfalls be operational following reinstatement? DB: It is not possible due to the location of the new rail tunnels. Trees and Vegetation (TV DWP) C1 and C2– Teryll Lepper Some trees within the CRL footprint will be removed and replanted on a 1:1 ratio with native trees. If trees are unable to be replanted, they will be offered to Manu whenua for carving, a wood turning group, or local residents. If any CLG members know of anyone who would like to take the trees, please inform the CRL team. The current Evergreen Magnolia trees on Albert Street will be removed and will not be replanted. It will be too difficult and dangerous to remove the roots of the trees as they will be tangled with the live underground utility lines. These will be replace with native trees. Discussions about inviting the local community to a blessing for the removed trees. CG to discuss with Manu whenua who plan to have a blessing ceremony for Albert Street to free the area of negativity. Kauri trees located in QEII Square will be impacted by the Downtown Shopping Centre (DSC) redevelopment. The trees will be removed, and if deemed feasible relocated. The soil in the kauri planter boxes will be tested for kauri dieback to inform removal/relocation decisions. Trees not removed as part of the Project will undergo weekly inspections. TC: When will the presence of Kauri DieBack be known? RJ: We are engaging with the Auckland Council parks Department regarding the feasibility of relocating the kauri. Soil sampling will be undertaken to inform this decision. If some of the kauri are relocated it will be in planter boxes within the CRL Project area not in a reserve. • Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP) • Chemical Treatment Management Plan (CTMP) • Industrial Trade Activities Environmental Management Plan (ITA EMP) • Emergency Spill Response Plan (ESRP) C2 - Sarah Lindberg The ESCP and CTMP work hand in hand, as does the ITAEMP and ESRP. Likely chemicals on site will include fuels for machinery, concrete retarders and chemicals for running the water treatment system, all of which will be stored correctly to avoid spills. Housekeeping training will take place to ensure every worker is aware of how to store and use the products. Water is likely to be collected in the trench from the rain and ground. This water will be treated then discharged into the Waitemata Harbour using a siltbuster and preferably biodegradable flocculants. There may be some instances where chemical flocculants must be used, but this will be kept to a minimum. This has been discussed with Manu whenua. Minutes or Action Points Auckland City Advisory Board are funding water studies conducted by CCI at the Waitemata Harbour on a monthly basis. CG to follow up with CCI to get a better understanding of their processes to ensure projects are in different areas. Concerns about sea water infiltrating the trenches were discussed. Diaphragm walling and sheet piling will create an air tight area to avoid this.

Good to see that the pohutukawa is safe. The "kauri grove" was always a ridiculous travesty. Whoever thought to plant kauri in a rectangular array? The best use of them is probably to offer the timber to local artisans. Perhaps instead of wasting resources on trying to relocate them, the project could establish plantings somewhere accessible from Downtown Auckland -- in the Domain perhaps, or on Motuihe.
If the kauri are removed, replacement planting will be undertaken as outlined in the DWP. The timber will be offered to Manu whenua for carving, a wood turning group, or local residents.

The CLG member advised that Water Quality Studies are underway in Auckland Harbour. The member advised we should contact Andrew Gutherie and Oliver Roberts and liaise with them to ensure the discharges from the project do not interfere with the water quality monitoring
Alasdair Mawdsley has made contact with Oliver Roberts to start a discussion. Oliver will put us in touch with the relevant water quality experts at Auckland Council for a more thorough discussion.
The Construction Support Areas are shown as having generators -- first I've seen of this. Those of us who lived through the Great Central Auckland Power Crisis grew heartily sick of the noise of motor generators. I would hope that the construction will use reticulated power, and that the generators are for emergency use only.
The site will use a mixture of grid tied power and generators. The generators are required as back up and to provide flexibility. The project team is working to minimise their use as far as practical.

Industrial and Trade Activities Delivery Work Plan (ITADWP) C2 Emergency Spill Response Plan (ESRP) Ross Boswell I'm surprised that argon is listed as an environmental hazard. C2
It is an inert gas, non-toxic but heavier-than-air so venting of a significant quantity might cause a hazard to workers in a confined space such as an excavation. With a stirring breeze it will be harmlessly dissipated in the atmosphere. It doesn't seem feasible to "contain" it. 5L seems an insignificant quantity in terms of hazard
A good point – Argon is included in the emergency spill response plan because it may act as an asphyxiant and because it’s a compressed gas (stored energy). So while it’s not particularly important from an environmental perspective, from a Health and Safety perspective we need to plan for it. As the project’s H&S plan is developed, it may drive some additional H&S orient text in the ESRP.
