β’ Western side β laying ducting, installing light pole foundations, preparing base layers of the footpath.
β’ Karangahape Road frontage β laying ducting, installing traffic light foundations, preparing the new cycle lane.

Works include:

β’ Installing a new watermain in front of the Fire Station
β’ Installing new intersection at Poynton Terrace
β’ Ducting between Poynton Terrace and Karangahape Road
β’ Tree pit and footpath works between Poynton Terrace and the Methodist Church.

Our recommendations:
β’ Improve lighting:
o Add better pedestrian orientated lighting
o Reinstate streetlights on the northern side of Canada Street and Lower Mercury Lane
o There is a need for lighting to filter down into the Mercury Theatre driveway from the station building
o Install beacons at the Greys Avenue pedestrian crossing
o Ensure existing lights are well maintained and veranda ceiling lights are left on at night
β’ Install more CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance and deter criminal activity, particularly around the Mercury Lane entrance, behind Beresford Square, and in East Street behind the station
β’ Provide support on activations to increase foot traffic and for more natural surveillance
β’ Provide clear wayfinding signage
β’ Work with Auckland Council to ensure there is a regular maintenance schedule to keep the area clean and free of graffiti.
