We’re also eagerly awaiting the completion of several major projects. At the historic Woodstock Opera House, the renovation of Stage Left will mark another milestone in preserving and enhancing one of our community’s greatest treasures for generations to come. The Woodstock Recreation Center, which will open early 2027, will provide an enhanced space for fitness, recreation, and community gatherings.

NISRA’s MISSION: Enriching the lives of people

with disabilities through meaningful recreation experiences and its values are: Fun, Professional, Innovative, Compassionate and Trustworthy. Do you know someone with a disability who would like to go out, have fun and make friends? Since 1976, NISRA has provided recreation programs for people with disabilities. Socializing, building physical skills, learning, relaxation and fun are some of the benefits gained from participating in NISRA’s year round activities. Sports, fitness, social, cultural, outdoor and preschool programs, along with camps, special events and trips offer enjoyment for children, teens, and adults of all ability levels. The Woodstock Recreation Department, along with 12 other districts, is a member of NISRA. Pick up a brochure at our 820 Lake Avenue office, view it online at nisra.org or call NISRA at 815-459-0737 to have one mailed to you. NISRA STAFF - NISRA’s full time professional recreation staff hold college degrees in Therapeutic Recreation or related fields, along with various certifications. Part-time staff and volunteers help people with disabilities learn new skills and have fun. Do you have a talent to share and some time to give? FITNESS CENTER The facility is currently undergoing a renovation, with an anticipated opening in early 2027. Currently, fitness services are temporarily hosted at our “Dean Street Rec Center” at 1201 Dean St., Woodstock. The fitness center will continue to offer limited indoor pool hours to members at AmericInn and Woodstock High School. The fitness center will continue to offer Group Fitness Classes, Monday through Saturday. Individual, family, senior, student, and corporate memberships, as well as punch cards and daily rates are available.

EVENTS & PROGRAMMING The Recreation Department provides a wide variety of programming for all ages including sports, fitness, aquatics, arts, dance and events. MEET THE RECREATION TEAM

Don’t wait – Register right away! In order to provide well organized programs for our participants all registration must be received one week prior to the start of class.

• Registrations must be received one week prior to the class. • Call-in registrations will not be accepted. • Late registration will be accepted if there is space. The fee will increase a minimum of $5 per registration. • There are no refunds once a class has begun. • Waitlist participants will be contacted when openings become available or new classes are formed. No charge to be on a waitlist. • Registrant must be age or grade listed by the first day of the program. Grade applies to the 2026-2027 school year. RESIDENCY The Recreation Department is funded by City of Woodstock taxpayers through the general corporate (real estate) tax. The Fitness Center, Programming and Woodstock Water Works are available to everyone: • Residents (R): Those with an address within corporate city limits. • Non-Residents (NR): Those living outside the city limits. Verification of residency may be required. If you’re unsure of your residency status, please call us at 815-338-4363. PEDESTRIAN SAFETY No matter the season, motorists need to be mindful of the pedestrian’s right of way at crosswalks. Drivers must stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks when signals are not present or operating, as required by Illinois law (625 ILCS 5/11-1002). The Woodstock Police Department reminds motorists to: • Slow down and stay alert for pedestrians • Yield at marked and unmarked crosswalks • Watch for walkers on sidewalks and park pathways A little extra awareness goes a long way in keeping everyone safe.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAMS

Just a reminder that school is back in session for all the children in our community. As you drive, please stay alert to increased pedestrian traffic as students walk to and from school each day. Illinois law requires drivers to stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and to obey the 20 MPH speed limit in designated school zones. Be especially mindful of school buses; stop arms and flashing lights mean the bus is loading or unloading students, and no vehicle may pass a school bus while the stop arm is extended.

The Police Department will have extra patrols around schools in the coming days to help ensure everyone’s safety as we adjust to the school year.

LEAF COLLECTION Residents have several options when it comes to fallen leaves: Bulk (Loose) Leaf Collection The City’s Public Works Department will complete two, 2 week rounds of leaf collection throughout the City, beginning: NORTH of Railroad Tracks

Public Work crews use leaf vacuum machines and other equipment to provide a timely pick-up, dependent on the weather. Residents should have leaf piles raked to the parkway by 7AM on the Monday of their week. Piles should be away from mailboxes and off the street. Avoid raking leaves into the street. Doing so allows the leaves to wash onto storm water collection grates and into the underground pipes which can increase the chance of flooding during rain events. Leaf piles will not be collected if they cannot be reached by equipment or contain brush or garbage. Vehicles should be removed or at least 20 ft from any pile during collection in their neighborhood. Dates for Bulk Leaf Collection are firm. No extensions or return trips will be made.

Bagged Leaf Scheduled Pick-Up Additionally, residents can have bagged leaves picked up in compostable paper bags. Pick-up will occur during the same timeframe as Bulk Leaf Collection. Pick-up will continue through December 18 by appointment through Public Works. To request a pickup, contact Public Works by phone at 815-338-6118 or by email at pwdept@woodstockil.gov. Compostable bags are available for purchase at local grocery and hardware stores.

Composting Leaves Residents may also choose to compost their leaves. Mulching leaves into smaller particles and allowing the mulch to remain on the lawn provides the soil with valuable nutrients. PLEASE NOTE: Because of the increased traffic, bulk leaf collection along state highways is more dangerous for crews. If possible, residents along Route 47 and Route 120 are encouraged to bag their leaves and contact the Public Works office to arrange for collection. This is not mandatory, simply a request.

HYDRANT FLUSHING The City’s Public Works Department flushes fire hydrants as a preventive maintenance measure twice a year. Fall schedule: All Hydrants WEST of IL Route 47 SEP 21 – OCT 2 All Hydrants EAST of IL Route 47 OCT 5 – 16 During this time, residents are encouraged to perform their own preventive maintenance by checking their supply line to their washing machines Hydrant flushing can result in discolored water; however, the water is safe to drink. You should not wash clothes when hydrants in your area are scheduled to be flushed.

The City of Woodstock allows recreational fires, which are defined as a temporary outdoor fire no larger than 3” x 3’ for burning seasoned firewood in a fully contained outdoor fireplace or appliance designed for recreational burning purposes. Burning of items such as leaves, grass, shrubbery, landscaping materials, rubbish or garbage is prohibited.

DISCHARGE OPTIONS FOR CHLORINATED WATER Swimming pools discharged into or nearby surface waters can have an adverse effect on local water quality and is toxic to wildlife and fish. To prevent this, pool owners are only allowed to discharge dechlorinated water. Once safely dechlorinated, water may be discharged to land in a manner that does not result in flooding. Contact your local pool chemical supplier to determine the type and amount of dechlorinating chemical to utilize. Questions? BALLFIELD RESERVATIONS The Recreation Department coordinates the schedules of community athletic organizations, recreation programs and special events within the city parks. We attempt to have all major events scheduled before March 1st. Reservations are accepted at the Dean Street Rec Center - 1201 Dean St during normal hours of operation, or by contacting Alan Dunker by email at adunker@woodstockil.gov or calling 815-338-4363. Reservations by the public will be accepted after May 15, when all league schedules are complete. In total, the City offers 16 softball/youth baseball fields, 4 baseball fields, 8 soccer fields (games only), 9 tennis courts, and 9 basketball courts.

Both Sesquicentennial Park and Park in the Square are Closed from 11:00 PM-5:00 AM or 15 minutes after a City-Approved Recreational activity, whichever is later. Pedestrian traffic is allowed during prohibited hours provided that pedestrians traverse the Parks without stopping or loitering.

ALL OTHER PARK SITES Parks are Closed between Dusk and 5:00 AM or 15 minutes after a City-Approved Recreational activity, whichever is later. For more information on the City’s parks, including amenities at each location, and pavilion rentals, please visit woodstockrecreation.com/parks.

OUTDOOR PICKLEBALL Come check out the outdoor pickleball courts at Olson Park (2 courts) and Emricson Park (8 courts), giving you plenty of space to play. Just bring your own paddles and equipment (first come, first served) and get ready for a fast-paced, social experience.
