The Woodstock Police Department is seeking an experienced, strategic, and service‑driven leader to serve as Deputy Chief of Police. This role serves as second in command to the Chief of Police and plays an essential part in the leadership, direction, and advancement of all divisions within the department. The Woodstock Police Department is a CALEA accredited agency of 62 sworn officers committed to professional excellence, innovation, and strong community partnerships. WPD maintains Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) State Law Enforcement Certification. The Deputy Chief will help guide the department’s operational readiness, personnel development, organizational strategy, and high‑quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
As Deputy Chief of Police, you will provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all operational and administrative functions of the department, including:
Directing, managing, and supervising all divisional operations
Supporting the Chief of Police in planning, organizing, and implementing strategic priorities
Leading supervisors and ensuring performance standards are met
Reviewing major incidents and administrative issues
Overseeing budget preparation, purchasing, and resource management
Evaluating supervisors and reviewing personnel evaluations
Maintaining and developing department policies and procedures
Administering discipline and ensuring equitable, consistent application of rules
Participating in hiring, training, and career development programs
Coordinating investigative activities and major incident response
Maintaining strong relationships with citizens, courts, and community partners
Monitoring department records management, equipment, and fleet maintenance
Conducting special studies, research, and administrative projects
Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and professional standards

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Criminology, Business, or related field
Minimum 10 years of continuous service as a certified police officer
Minimum 3 additional years in a law enforcement management role
Valid Georgia Class C driver’s license
POST Basic Law Enforcement Officer Certification
Completion of a recognized executive law enforcement development program (e.g., FBI National Academy, PERF SMIP, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern Police Staff & Command)
Additional Requirements
Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to read and write English
Must successfully pass an oral interview, police background check, reference check, polygraph/CVSA, psychological exam, physical exam, and any job related testing and complete a probationary period
