The Woodstock Fire Department is seeking a highly experienced, service driven, and forward thinking leader to serve as Deputy Fire Chief. This position plays a critical role as a member of the Command Staff, supporting the Fire Chief in the overall leadership, management, and direction of the department’s operations, personnel, and strategic initiatives.
WFD is a growing, all hazards fire and emergency services agency committed to operational excellence, community partnership, innovation, and high quality service delivery. The Deputy Fire Chief helps ensure the department continues to meet both current and future needs of the City of Woodstock. The Deputy Fire Chief is essential to the organization’s operational readiness, administrative strength, and long term strategic direction. This role supports and oversees programs that impact daily operations, personnel performance, community risk reduction, and emergency response.
Currently the City Fire Department operates out of two fire stations. Fire Station 14 which is considered HQ and Fire Station 10. The department has two new fire stations under construction. Fire Station 28 is scheduled to open August 2026, with Fire Station 34 opening around December 2026. The Fire Department is staffed with 66 members across operations and administration.
Responsibilities include:
• Building strong relationships with personnel through regular and open communication.
• Leading and developing team members at various ranks; maintaining a positive, solutions focused culture.
• Overseeing recruitment, hiring, onboarding, promotions, and performance evaluations.
• Ensuring compliance with city policies, state and federal laws, and departmental standards.
• Guiding short, mid, and long term strategic planning and organizational priorities.
• Leading the Departmental Divisions of Operations, Administration, and Community Risk Reduction.
• Responding to major emergency incidents and serving as Incident Commander as needed.
• Assist with developing, administering budgets, capital projects, purchasing, contracts, and financial processes.

Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree in Fire Services, EMS, Public Administration, or related field
• Georgia Certified Firefighter or ability to obtain within 6 months
• NPQ Firefighter I & II
• Georgia or National Registry EMT/Paramedic or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Minimum 8 years of progressive fire service experience
• Minimum 5 years as a fire officer in a similar or greater size department
• ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 within 6 months
• Blue Card Incident Command within 12 months
• Fire Officer IV or equivalent within 12 months
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree
• Executive Fire Officer (EFO) designation
• Paramedic
• Five years serving as a Chief Fire Officer in a comparable or larger department
• Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Designation
• Budget development and project management experience

Anticipated Salary
• Range based on Experience, Education & Certifications
• $100,164.50 – $125,832.43
