June has arrived, and summer is right around the corner! This Saturday, the Mare Island Waterfront will come alive with the 40th annual Pista Sa Nayon, a vibrant celebration of Filipino culture. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the incredible food, music, dance, and community spirit that make this event so special.
Earlier this week, I had the honor of speaking at the PRIDE flag raising ceremony at City Hall as we kicked off PRIDE Month in Vallejo. Our city’s rich diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and it was inspiring to see our community come together in celebration and solidarity.
On Tuesday, residents cast their ballots in the Vallejo Room. I extend my sincere appreciation to the staff who helped facilitate the voting process and to everyone who participated. Voting is a cornerstone of our democracy, and strong turnout ensures our community’s voice is accurately reflected.

County Honoring Centenarians
The Solano County Board of Supervisors is inviting the community to help identify local centenarians for recognition by the Board of Supervisors later this fall as part of the 20th annual Centenarian Commemoration Celebration.
Now in its 20th year, the program has become one of the County’s most cherished traditions, celebrating the lives, legacies and wisdom of residents who have reached the extraordinary milestone of 100 years or more. To date, the Board has honored 347 centenarians, representing more than 35,000 combined years of life experience.

How Vallejo Tests Its Drinking Water
Vallejo has a history of delivering to your tap high-quality drinking water that meets or exceeds every safety standard set by the state and federal governments. Every week, laboratory analysts from the Vallejo Water Department head out across the city to collect drinking water samples from locations throughout the system. These tests results prove, time and time again, that Vallejo’s water that you rely on is safe and reliable, whenever you need it.
Some water samples come from reservoirs. Others come from dedicated sample stations placed throughout Vallejo, testing the water quality in the 600 miles of underground pipe. Some samples come directly from Vallejo’s Water Treatment Plant at Fleming Hill. Each sample is carefully collected; labeled with the date, time, and location; and transported back to the department’s laboratory for analysis, in coolers designed to preserve sample integrity during transport.
From there, the testing process begins.
Inside the Vallejo Water Department’s state-certified laboratory, analysts analyze samples for a wide range of water quality indicators, including bacteria, disinfectant levels, minerals, and other regulated components. Some tests are completed the same day, while others require additional incubation or processing time depending on the type of analysis being performed.
Not every water agency operates its own certified laboratory. Having in-house testing capabilities allows the Vallejo Water Department to perform much of its routine water quality monitoring locally, maintain close oversight of the testing process from sample collection through final results, and respond quickly if a water quality issue arises.
Accuracy is a critical part of the work. Laboratory instruments are routinely calibrated and verified, testing procedures must follow strict state and federal requirements, and documentation accompanies samples throughout the testing process. The laboratory is also subject to oversight and auditing through the State’s Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP), which helps ensure testing methods and reporting procedures, and lab results, meet regulatory standards.
Testing happens on multiple schedules depending on what is being monitored. Some water quality checks occur daily, while others take place weekly, monthly, or according to longer-term regulatory timelines. Altogether, the department collects and analyzes more than 10,000 samples each year, generating thousands of data points used to monitor the safety and consistency of Vallejo’s drinking water. Most customers never see this work taking place behind the scenes. But week after week, sample by sample, it is one of the ways the Vallejo Water Department verifies that the water delivered to homes and businesses continues to meet state and federal drinking water standards.
