Current Staffing

Strategies Underway to Maintain & Increase Staffing
• All-Star Recruiting (PD/HR currently evaluating effectiveness of service)
• Recruitment, retention and referral program – approved by City Council July 2025
• HR has two extra-help recruiters for VPD
• Ongoing officer oral panels, physical fitness testing (WSTB) and Pellet-B written exam
• Weekly coordination meetings with HR and monthly coordination meetings with Command staff
• In 2024 –97 officer background investigations
• In 2025 - 96 officer backgrounds investigations
• Reviving the VPD Explorer and Cadet Program – long-term feeder program solution
• Pending $230K community project ask via Congressman Garamendi’s Office for Police Explorer Program
