In November, we attended fun community events, from local favorites like the Sebastian Clam Bake to new events like the Spirit of Sebastian Farmers Market! Check out our video from the clambake and photos from the market below! As we head into December, we can look forward to the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce Light Up Night on December 5 and the City of Sebastian Christmas Parade on December 6. This November, we welcome Council Member Sherrie Matthews to the dais to complete the unfinished term of Council Member Dixon. We wish her the best as she embarks on this new position in local government!

In accordance with the City’s Charter Section 2.06, as the first order of business after an election, the City Council shall elect a mayor from among its members. Immediately subsequent to the selection of a mayor, the City Council shall elect a vice-mayor from among its members. At Council’s November 12th meeting, Fred Jones was appointed Mayor for the upcoming year and Bob McPartlan as the Vice Mayor. We wish them every success as we head into 2026.

October 2025 Plan Review Times

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

On Wednesday, December 3rd, the City Council approved a new development project known as Hawk’s Landing. The project will bring 162 townhomes across 28 buildings to the community and will be constructed just off Schumann Drive. In addition, Council also approved a second project called Treasure Bay, which will include 110 single-family homes and 70 paired villas. This new development will be built off Industrial Park Boulevard, further contributing to the area’s growing residential options.

Phase 4 preservation paving has commenced on Killdare and Mabry. Citywide pothole repairs continue.

Roadway safety line striping throughout the city has commenced.

Barber St between Vocelle Ave and Oswego Ave milled and resurfaced November 24-26, 2025.

A hydraulic hose assembly machine (CIP-funded) is on site, and we are setting up an area for hydraulic repairs and hose making in our garage. The garage has scheduled our annual lift inspections and completed the yearly removal of our used oil and filters, used solids (Oil Dry), and used antifreeze.

The garage has recently updated our process for notification to our customers for scheduling services and repairs.

Tank Wizards completed tank cleaning and treatment for the public works compound off-road diesel tank, police, city hall, and airport emergency generator tanks.

STORM WATER

Currently working on Zones 3, 4, and 6 Ditch dredging. We made it through a successful and uneventful hurricane season without incident.

Swale grading in conjunction with Phase 4 roadway paving has commenced.

City, along with Contractors, began the Riviera and Gardenia drainage project in mid-November.

Stonecrop ditch restoration is still in progress.

AIRPORT

UPDATES

The new Taxiway Golf construction project at Sebastian Municipal Airport is continuing through the month of December. This project, under an FDOT grant and city funding, will provide a crucial ground-movement resource for aircraft and is the first step in developing the open northwest corner of the airport for future growth. The contractors, Dickerson Infrastructure, and Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering are working together with the City to bring this project to completion by early February.
