Award winning author and illustrator Alison Lester’s book Are We There Yet?, tells the story of Alison’s own family’s journey around Australia in a camper van. This remarkable book was selected as the inspiration for a nationwide writing competition, asking children across Australia (aged 2-12 years) to write a story about their home town or a special place they have visited in Australia. Our Salisbury Story Book is the Salisbury Library Service’s local Are We There Yet? initiative. The stories and images contained within these pages are a result of a school holiday program held during the month of October at the Len Beadell Library, located in the heart of Salisbury. The stories speak to idea that children are finding their place, that they are all storytellers and that the passion for reading and sharing literature starts at an early age. Please enjoy reading what children from the local Salisbury Library Community have to say about their home town or special family adventure they have been on. Their creativity, language, shared experiences and literacy skill celebrate what The National Year of Reading 2012 is all about.
