Formerly known as synchronized swimming or water ballet, this program offers a beginner-friendly introduction to Artistic Swimming. Participants will learn fundamental sculling techniques and basic movements in the water. A minimum of Swimmer 5 skills and the ability to swim up to 400 meters continuously are required for this class. Nose plugs will be needed, although not for the initial sessions. Additional details will be shared by the instructor during class. For ages 12+

Candidates must be a minimum of 13 years old or have their Bronze Star certification.
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Candidates acquire the assessment and problemsolving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Endurance standard includes a 400m swim that must be completed in under 12 minutes. Bronze Medallion completion is required to enroll in assistant lifeguard training.

Lifeguard certification expires after 2 years. Renew your award by attending this clinic to perform all required skills and review knowledge for NL. Are you new to the weight room? Attend a one hour orientation session to familiarize yourself with our cardio and weight equipment and learn how to use them safely and effectively.
DATES/TIMES: Orientations will be scheduled at a time that is agreed upon between the participant and the weight room attendant.
$20 private/$10 each for groups of 2 or more Location: Recreation Complex Weight Room
Our certified trainers can provide training one on one or in group session. Whether you are new to fitness, need personalized motivation or sport specific training, our personal trainers can develop a program individualized to you and your specific goals. Our trainers can motivate you by assisting with goal setting, providing feedback and accountability. Speak to the Health and Fitness Program Coordinator for more information and to set up an appointment.
All sessions are 1 hour. Sessions include you and your trainer in a one on one 60 minute session addressing your personal related goals.

All session are 45 minutes. The viscosity of the water provides an excellent source of resistance when incorporated into an Aquatic Personal Training Program. This resistance allows for muscle strengthening without the need of weights. This program is especially useful for those with arthritis, healing fractured bones, or who are overweight.

The youth training sessions highlight the importance of a proper mobility warm up, how to activate and engage your working muscles, safe training mechanics, and stretches needed for a thorough cool down. These private or semi-private sessions educate youth with lifelong skills to keep them healthy. Youth training specializes as an introduction to lifting or to improving athleticism. The programming is individualized to each youth’s needs, whether they need attention for mental health conditions or chronic diseases, diverse learning styles, healthy physique training methods, or are working towards high performance athletic goals

Gerrimae has had a lifelong passion for movement, food, and people. She was the owner of Thrive Fitness, went back to school to pursue an education in nutrition, became a certified indoor rowing instructor then opened My Element Health and Fitness. For 15 years she shared her knowledge and energy, empowering women to move and thrive. She has broadened her knowledge base greatly by becoming a nutrition coach to allow her a wider approach to her personal training. Her clients

Kimberley Gage is a BCRPA Personal and Older Adult Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Yoga Teacher. A cheerleader at heart, she is passionate about helping clients meet their health, fitness and mobility goals, regardless of their ability. Kimberley employs a variety of strength and mobility techniques to increase mindbody awareness and improve function.

Shayla Sarton is a practicing kinesiologist with a B.Sc in Exercise Science, with a focused career in high performance sport and chronic disease management. Working with Shay is a trusted choice, as she’s able to help those with osteoporosis, diabetes, cancer and recovering cancer, stroke and cardiorespiratory conditions, muscular and motor control
and Precision Nutrition Level 2, and enjoys teaching people to use the best technique possible when they exercise. “I believe everybody who is able to move, can start somewhere and get stronger if they use good exercise technique, consistently show up to train and try to have fun in the process."

Feel and experience the pulsating rhythms, dynamic movements and powerful percussions of this unique high-energy rhythmical workout. Drums alive combines movement with the power of drumming. The beginner course will ensure you are familiar with the movements before graduating to more complex choreography in the intermediate class.

The Hearts in Motion Walking program is designed to encourage people to participate in regular physical activity by walking. Walking is a great way to boost health and energy and it's easily incorporated into any lifestyle. You can reduce risk factors such as stress, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and body fat by incorporating thirty minutes of physical activity most days of the week. Walks will occur in various locations around the community on trails. Sturdy footwear is important for stability over roots and rocks.

ActivAge™ is a free group-led physical activity program for inactive older adults. It introduces participants to physical activity and reinforces their commitment to incorporate it into their daily lives. The program is progressive with planned physical activities (stretching, activity, and cool-down) based on ActivAge™ training. This fun and social program will help get participants moving in a relaxed environment with likeminded people. The program focuses on improving activities associated with daily living, strengthening muscles used day-today. Each class incorporates physical activities that engage participants, and features in-class discussions and resources to improve overall health and physical well-being.

In partnership with the BCEHS Community Paramedicine Program this engaging and supportive walking program is designed for graduates of the Brave Hearts Cardiac Rehabilitation program. Participants will walk the paved pathway around the Complex as well as the Millennium Park trails, while discussing current concerns and supporting each other. Formerly the Brave Hearts Walk & Talk, this program has now expanded to included people living with a variety of chronic health conditions.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, are dealing with side effects of treatment or are a five-year survivor, you are welcome and encouraged to join me on your journey. Exercise is safe and feasible during treatment, after treatment or in remission, it is essential for recovery and fitness. No matter what your level of fitness is, there is a spot for you. Perhaps you just want to socialize with likeminded people, perhaps you want to relax and learn a new breathing pattern for coping skills, perhaps you want to move about to release stress and build back stamina, we have you covered. Our Prenatal Fitness program allows you to experience the benefits of exercise during any trimester and meet other parents to be. Our certified prenatal instructor will lead you through safe cardiovascular training, flexibility, and mobility work as well as muscle strengthening and conditioning. It is recommended that participants consult with their health care provider before beginning a fitness programwhile pregnant. Please note that a Par Q Form must be filled out and returned to the Complex prior to the first class. The form can be picked up at reception or downloaded during online registration.

Take a journey through your Chakra energy centres and expand your inner light during this one day Kriya Yoga intensive . This workshop will begin with a guided meditation to help us ground, clear and open to receive the teachings that will follow. Learn what chakras really are according to ancient wisdom, directly from the Himalayas, and discover how to tune into your own channel of light and inner knowing. Followed by a transformative 2hr Kriya Yoga journey, working our way intentionally from root to crown with chakra specific Kriya sets including asana, pranayama, mantra, mudra & meditation. You will receive a beautiful Chakra Yoga Booklet to help guide your journey and support you moving forward along your life path. Learn how to incorporate strength training into your day when you find yourself unable to commit to long training sessions. This workshop will teach 10 exercises you can do for 2-3 minutes at a time for those days when work or family commitments make it impossible to work out.

Learn how to effectively warm up and train to increase and maintain hip mobility in this targeted workshop. Designed for individuals who are already training regularly, this session will focus on exercises and techniques to improve range of motion, movement quality, and overall performance.
Participants should be comfortable performing floor-based exercises, as much of the work will involve mat-based mobility drills and active movement sequences. Take your training to the next level by unlocking better mobility where it matters most!

Learn strength training exercises in the Leisure Pool. Water supported squats, push-ups and single leg exercises are easier with the support of water. This workshop is ideal for people who need support because of a lower body injury, back problems or weak beginners who would like to start training.
