Startup Tech course added to Paramount High School CTE offerings
P
aramount High School has expanded its Career and Technical Education (CTE) course offerings by adding Startup Tech: Introduction to Entrepreneurship and App Development. This is the third course within the Entrepreneurship Pathway for 2019-20. The new course was developed in accordance with Paramount Unified School District’s Strategic Plan to create college-ready and career-ready graduates by continually expanding CTE offerings. Dr. Greg Francois, Director of Secondary Education, describes Startup Tech as “a special place where coding meets the entrepreneurial mindset.” The year-long class serves as a blended-learning, tech-entrepreneurship course that requires students to identify ways to improve their world and to build marketable digital solutions using MIT App Inventor. Students create original apps that addresses community needs and then develop original business plans and marketing materials.
At the completion of the school year, selected students will have the opportunity to present their apps at the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Startup Showcase exposition, where they could win funding and publicity. CTE Curriculum Specialist Cecile Kim said: “I am thrilled that our Paramount students will have another engaging CTE course. After they complete Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Entrepreneurship 2, I cannot wait to see all the wonderful things they will be able to create in this new course.”

a Preparatoria Paramount ha ampliado sus ofertas de cursos de Educación Profesional y Técnica (CTE) al agregar Startup Tech: Introducción al Emprendimiento y Desarrollo de Aplicaciones. Este es el tercer curso dentro del Camino del Emprendimiento para 2019-20. El nuevo curso se desarrolló de acuerdo con el Plan Estratégico del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Paramount para crear graduados listos para la universidad y para una carrera mediante la expansión continua de las ofertas de CTE. Dr. Greg Francois, Director de Educación Secundaria, describe Startup Tech como “un lugar especial donde la codificación cumple con la mentalidad emprendedora.” La clase de todo un año sirve como un curso de aprendizaje mixto y emprendimiento tecnológico que requiere que los estudiantes identifiquen formas de mejorar su mundo y para construir soluciones digitales comercializables utilizando MIT App Inventor. Los estudiantes crean aplicaciones originales que abordan las necesidades de la comunidad y luego desarrollan planes comerciales originales y materiales de comercialización. We encourage all parents to get involved in their children’s education by volunteering in the classroom or reaching out to teachers for other volunteer opportunities. This will provide a chance for families to get to know one another, build community, and learn how best to meet the needs of their students.
