2018 PHS Valedictorian: Fernanda Corona Rizo Fernanda has incredible drive and passion for her academic coursework. She has taken 11 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and 4 Honors courses during her time at Paramount High School and earned an incredible total weighted grade point average of 4.53. While attending high school, she concurrently enrolled at East Los Angeles College to take a music course with the goal to take the most challenging courses afforded to her. Not only does Fernanda excel in academics, but she is also a scholar athlete, having participated in cross-country and track and field as a long-distance runner. Fernanda grew up with her mother and two siblings and faced many financial obstacles, but feels very fortunate to have her family as a strong support team who continuously encourages her to pursue her dreams and goals. Fernanda understands the effort needed to create a well-balanced high school experience and participated in programs, such as COSMOS at University of California, Irvine (UCI) in the summer of 2017, Earthwatch in Colorado during the summer of 2016,

and the Young Senators Program during her junior year. Fernanda has volunteered for the Los Angeles Animal Shelter, Rabbit Rescue, School on Wheels, where she tutored students in
homeless shelters, Going the Distance junior running club, where she served as an assistant coach for elementary students, and at

Fernanda tiene un increíble impulso y pasión por sus cursos académicos. Ella ha tomado 11 cursos de Colocación Avanzada (AP) y 4 cursos de Honores durante el tiempo que estuvo en la Preparatoria de Paramount y obtuvo un increíble promedio de grado ponderado de 4.53. Mientras asistía a la preparatoria, ella simultáneamente se matriculó en el Colegio Comunitario del Este de Los Ángeles para tomar un curso de música con el objetivo de tomar los cursos más desafiantes que se le pudieran ofrecer. Fernanda sobresale no solo en lo académico, sino que también es atleta académica, habiendo participado en campo y travesía y atletismo como corredora de larga distancia. Fernanda creció con su madre y dos hermanos y enfrentaron muchos obstáculos financieros, pero se siente muy afortunada de tener a su familia como un fuerte
equipo de apoyo que continuamente la alienta a luchar por sus sueños y metas. Fernanda entiende el esfuerzo necesario en crear una experiencia escolar y participar en programas, tales como COSMOS en la Universidad de California, Irvine (UCI) durante el verano de 2017, Earthwatch en Colorado durante el verano de 2016 y el programa de Jóvenes Senadores durante su 11o grado. 2018 PHS Salutatorian: Alexis Armando Torres Salutatorian de la Clase 2018 de PHS: Alexis Armando Torres Felicidades a Alexis Armando Torres, el segundo estudiante de la clase 2018 (Salutatorian) con las mejores calificaciones de la Preparatoria de Paramount. Alexis es un joven muy extrovertido e inteligente que obtuvo una puntuación total ponderada de 4.51 mientras tomaba 10 clases de colocación avanzada (AP) y 5 clases de honores. Además, ha superado asombrosamente cada prueba AP que ha tomado hasta el momento.
Congratulations to Alexis Armando Torres, the class of 2018 Salutatorian at Paramount High School. Alexis is a very outgoing and intelligent young man who earned a total weighted grade point average of 4.51 while taking 10 Advanced Placement (AP) classes and 5 Honors classes. Additionally, he has amazingly passed every AP test that he has taken thus far. Alexis was born and raised in
Guadalajara, Jalisco and faced countless trials and tribulations during his upbringing. In his 5th grade school year, he came to the United States with his mother, step-father and two sisters to join his grandmother and uncle. He began attending Zamboni Middle School and continued to help his family financially by working through his sophomore year of high school. Upon transitioning to his father’s home during his junior year,
his father sadly passed away in the summer of 2017 forcing Alexis to find a place to live on his own. He found a garage to rent from someone whom he barely knew and worked several jobs to pay for his own rent. He gained freedom, but he faced the challenges of an adult at a very young age. Alexis has expressed sincere gratitude for the support system that he has at Paramount High School, made up of his girlfriend, friends, and many staff members. While balancing academic coursework, jobs and hardship, Alexis concurrently participated in the Paramount High School boys soccer team all four years of

Alexis nació y fue criado en Guadalajara, Jalisco y enfrentó innumerables pruebas y tribulaciones durante su crianza. En el 5o grado, él se vino a los Estados Unidos con su madre, padrastro y dos hermanas para unirse con su abuela y tío. Él empezó en la escuela secundaria Zamboni mientras continuaba ayudando a su familia económicamente trabajando durante el 10o grado cuando estaba en la preparatoria. Tras la transición de moverse a la casa de
su padre durante el 11o grado, su padre lamentablemente falleció en el verano de 2017 obligando a Alexis a encontrar un lugar para vivir por su cuenta. Encontró un garaje para poder alquilar de alguien a quien apenas conocía y trabajó en varios trabajos para pagar su propio alquiler. Ganó la libertad, pero enfrentó los desafíos de un adulto a una edad muy temprana.
