Have a Frightfully Good Time at the Annual Halloween Carnival!

Paramount’s annual Halloween Carnival will once again provide a free, fun, safe, and spooky good time at Paramount Park on Friday, October 31. The carnival itself starts at 6:00 p.m., although the preschool area will open at 5:00 p.m. This fright-night of fun has offered parents and youngsters a supervised environment full of activities and goodies for decades. There’s always a big crowd and lots of excitement at the ghoulish gathering. There will be costume contests by age category, music, jumpers, an assortment of games, food booths and more. Train rides will be available at a cost $1 per ride. Plus, the City will give away lots and lots of candy. Going Trick-or-Treating? Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.
Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
Enter homes only if you're with a trusted adult.
Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible.
Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.
Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.
Home Safe Home
Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats from strangers. Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Always walk and don't run from house to house.

For anyone going door-to-door on the trick-or-treating hunt this year, or if you’ll be home to greet the costumed youngsters, here are some tips to help make Halloween safe and fun for all.
Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.
Remove anything a child could trip over from the porch or front yard such as garden hoses, toys, bikes, and lawn decorations. Check outdoor lights and replace burned-out bulbs.
Consider using a flashlight or a glow stick instead of a candle to light your pumpkin. If you do use a candle, a votive candle is the safest. Candlelit pumpkins should be placed on a sturdy table, away from curtains and other flammable objects, and should never be left unattended. Make sure you set a time that your kids should be home by. Make sure they know how important it is for them to be home on time or to call immediately if something happens and they are going to be delayed.
Know the route your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them.
