CITY OF PARAMOUNT
Don’t Miss the Halloween Carnival! Paramount’s annual Halloween Carnival will once again provide a fun, safe and spooky good time at Paramount Park on Monday, October 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Come on out and join your neighbors for a supervised environment full of activities and goodies. There will be costume contests by age category, an assortment of games, food booths and more. Plus, the City will give away lots and lots of candy. Paramount Park is located at 14400 Paramount Blvd. For more information, call (562) 220-2121.
Paramount Pond Getting a Refresher The City’s public plaza, the Paramount Pond, located at Paramount Blvd. and Jackson St., opened in 1999 with its ice-skating-themed sculpture garden, inviting benches and tranquil landscaping. After more than a decade’s worth of heavy use – including the annual Holiday Tree Lighting that draws thousands each year – the time has come to give the Pond an overhaul. The feature of the Pond that reproduces the look of ice will be upgraded with a new crushed-glass surface and decorative fiber-optic lighting that will provide a dramatic new sheen. The bridges and light poles will receive new paint, new trash cans will be installed and the benches renovated. A few of the trees have been removed, as well, to allow for better growth of the remaining trees and to open up the visibility of adjoining businesses. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October.
