The City of Oviedo will be hosting three information sessions regarding the Property Tax Referendum (Amendment 3) on the November 3rd ballot. City Leadership will be in attendance and will start with a short presentation about how the budget works, funds within the budget, and impacts should the amendment pass. There will also be a discussion about what the City’s options are for the FY 2027-28 am FY 2028-29 budget. After the presentation, residents can speak with representatives from each department answering questions about their divisions and assisting with information. The third information session will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Recreation Center, 1600 Lockwood Blvd. This is an opportunity to learn about the Amendment that could affect city services to our community.

West Mitchell Hammock Corridor Safety Improvements Construction for the West Mitchell Hammock Road Corridor Safety Improvements will begin on September 30, 2026. The overall construction will extend through June 2027. In the first phase of construction, the right westbound lane will be closed and traffic will be shifted to the center lane which will be converted to a westbound through lane. There will still be two (2) westbound and eastbound lanes. The project extends from just east of State Road (SR) 426 to approximately 300 feet west of South Lake Jessup Avenue for an overall length of approximately 3,750 feet. The project involves the minor widening of West Mitchell Hammock Road to incorporate a raised median and an 8-foot sidewalk along the north side of the roadway. Traffic control devices will be in place for the safety of the workers. We appreciate your patience for the duration of this project

Join the Oviedo Police Department for the 2026 National Night Out celebration at Center Lake Park! We will have police officers, police vehicles, free food and drinks, bounce houses for the kids, dynamic police K9 demonstrations, face painting, police car finger painting, a live DJ, police and fire equipment and vendor booths and tables! Congratulations to Firefighter Paramedic Andrew Harris, Firefighter EMT Joshua Lamb and Firefighter EMT Ethan Loor on the completion of your probationary year with the Oviedo Fire Department! These three firefighters completed their annual probationary period this month and were presented by their Battalion Chiefs with their permanent helmet shields that have their department Id numbers. Never stop learning and keep up the great work!

C I TAT I O N S CITATIONS

Congratulations to Lt. DePanicis, Sgt Roberts, Detectives Salemi & Warren, and officers Meyer. Jerome, Santiago, Chesnut, Varkony-Selmer, Reyes and Burdge on their Unit Citations awarded by Deputy Chief Brian Foley after their response to a shooting incident. On June 24, 2026, officers responded to a shooting on Alafaya Woods Blvd. Due to their rapid response, coordination and containment, officers prevented the suspect from fleeing the area. Officer Chesnut located the suspect vehicle and detained all the occupants inside before additional officers could arrive and set up a perimeter. Working seamlessly with our detectives, officers assisted in a search of the vehicle, resulting in the recovery of two firearms, including one connected to another criminal investigation, an additional loaded magazine, and a duffle bag containing marijuana. The coordinated effort resulted in getting guns off the street and the arrest of two juveniles. The professionalism, teamwork, and decisive actions demonstrated by all personnel involved exemplify the highest standards of the Oviedo Police Department and make this team highly deserving of a Unit Citation.

C I TAT I O N S CITATIONS Another round of congratulations to Lt. Sacco and Officers Fehl, David, Hill, Moseley, Brongel, Brown, Solares, Norris, Smith, Vargas Medina, Varkony Selmer, Burkett Dreggors and Sawyer on their Unit Citation from an April incident. Deputy Chief Brian Foley presented the award for their response to a domestic violence incident from April 26th. Officer responded to the incident that escalated to a barricaded subject. The officers quickly secured the neighborhood, evacuated witnesses and victims and coordinated an arrest team that confined the subject to a 2nd floor bedroom. Through effective teamwork, tactical discipline, and clear communication under supervisory command, officers safely managed the incident until they could be relieved by the Special Response Team. SRT successfully took the suspect into custody without further incident. The approximately 2.5-hour operation concluded with the suspect's arrest on multiple felony charges. The professionalism, courage, and coordinated efforts demonstrated by all personnel resulted in the safe resolution of a high-risk incident and exemplify the highest standards of the Oviedo Police Department, making the team deserving of a Unit Citation

Christian Castaneda

We want to welcome our newest officer, Christian Castaneda to the Oviedo Police Department! Castaneda was born in Orlando and raised in Ocala, and has always had a strong respect for law enforcement, starting in childhood. He's always felt the need to help people and after graduating from Vanguard High School, he joined the U.S. Army, having served five years as an active duty Military Police Officer. Castaneda served in South Korea and Fort Bliss, TX, where he complited Military Police Investigator School. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant and continues to serve in the Army reserves today. He is a husband and a father and is so grateful to begin his career in Oviedo, enjoying the strong sense of community the city has. We are proud to have him here!

OVIEDO PUBLIC SAFETY CADET PROGRAM The Public Safety Cadets program offers participants hands-on experience, leadership development, and the opportunity to serve the Oviedo community alongside our officers. The Police Cadet Program introduces young adults to the world of law enforcement through hands on training, classroom education, and mentorship
