Candidate election packets are available for pick-up beginning in March at the City Clerk’s Office We encourage prospective candidates to review materials early and plan ahead for the qualifying period.

City Offices Closed to Observe Memorial Day
City of Oviedo government offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, to observe Memorial Day. Offices will re-open onTuesday, May 26, 2026, at 8 a.m.
On Monday, May 25, 2026, there will be a sunset Memorial Day Ceremony at the VeteransTribute, located at Center Lake Park (299 Center Lake Lane). The tribute will be put on by the OviedoAmerican Legion Post 243, honoring fallen members of the military.Taps will be played at sunset. It is a signal of the end of the day, played to honor service members who paid the ultimate price. This ceremony is open to the public.

Citizens Lane is coming along as our Public Works Department continues working with our contractors to complete the work. The landscaping is coming along and these oak trees will grow into beautiful shade trees on this connector road.
The pedestrian bridge is near completion, connecting Solary Park to the downtown core, as the City continues its commitment to micromobility around town. We are expecting the project to be completed this summer!
OnApril 23, 2026, the City's Public Works Department completed installing the “Wildlife Whereabout” signs throughout City parks as part of an initiative to raise awareness of wildlife habitats and educate the public.
In May, 2025, the City’s Public Works Department, Stormwater Division, unveiled the “Wildlife Whereabouts” program to track and observe native species.The city saw a way to combine the basic idea of outlining what habitats could potentially be within the floodplains and taking it a step further and involve city residents and visitors to the local trails and parks by observing wildlife in its natural habitat. The program is interactive and allows users to send pictures of spotted wildlife and pinpoint locations to track various species in the city.
“Wildlife Whereabouts” was created as a citizen science initiative that encourages everyone to explore the outdoors and contribute to wildlife conservation. Citizens can use an online, interactive map to see not only what type of rare or endangered wildlife they could be viewing, but also see more common species of local interest and where wildlife can be found.The city houses several bird species such as bald eagles, sandhill cranes and owls. In addition, other species such as otters, alligators, deer, snakes, turtles and many more are also part of the city’s ecosystem, along with valuable native plants that help the local wildlife thrive.The full list can be found here: https://www.cityofoviedo.net/1203/Stormwater
The signs, now fully installed, provide explorers with information about local wildlife and include a QR code that anyone can scan to upload their wildlife photos.This will also allow visitors to the parks to pin the locations where they see wildlife.
The city recognizes this program as a great summer activity for families who are looking for a little adventure and to get to know Oviedo's wildlife.

Anyone wishing to participate and submit a form is asked to observe the rules and Florida State laws regarding wildlife.
Keep a safe distance from all wildlife, especially dangerous species such as alligators, snakes and bears. Do not feed the wildlife to get a good picture.That is against the law.
Keep children at a safe distance.
Do not disturb nests or offspring.
Observe, don’t interact.
The city wants to inspire young biologists, nature lovers and photographers to explore and reconnect with nature through this ongoing program.
RIVERSIDE PARK
Starting Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Riverside Park will begin the first of a two-phase parking lot resurfacing project
Phase I (one) - Will consist of closing the north end of the parking lot to allow concrete work, including the relocation of ADA Parking spots and sidewalk repairs, followed by a complete asphalt re-milling. All park users will need to enter Riverside Park at the south end, by the skate park, and use the sidewalks to access the community center, pool area, or playground.
Work is scheduled to take up to two weeks, pending the vendor's schedule and weather.
During phase one of this project, access to the multipurpose field and tennis/pickleball courts will be closed.
Phase II (two) - The south end will begin immediately after the north end of the parking lot is reopened. More information about phase two will be shared once maintenance of traffic (MOT) has been reviewed and approved. Information will be updated as it becomes available

Door Alarms Door Alarms
The Oviedo Fire Department has door and window alarms available to give away, courtesy of the Wesley Seth Foundation.
As kids get out of school and spend more time at home or areas near water, we want to make sure caregivers are aware of the program to keep kids safe!
These alarms will activate if a door or window is opened, making it easy for a child to slip out and fall into the water. Fill out this form, and the Fire Department will contact you about how you can pick it up: Interest Form
Reckless driving of these devices, such as impeding traffic, weaving in and out of traffic, and driving the wrong way, can lead to serious injury or death, which is something we want everyone to avoid.

ABurn Ban is in effect across Seminole County, prohibiting the ignition and burning of open fires.
Under Seminole County Code (Section 85.24), a Burn Ban is enacted when the drought index, known as the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), reaches or exceeds 500 and no measurable rainfall is expected in the near future. Based on these conditions, the Burn Ban went into effect onApril 24, 2026.
The purpose of the Burn Ban is to reduce the risk of wildfires and protect lives and property throughout the community.
The countywide, mandatory Burn Ban applies to both unincorporated areas and municipalities of Seminole County.The Burn Ban prohibits all outdoor burning that has not been permitted by the Florida Forest Service. Bonfires, campfires, and the burning of vegetative (yard) debris is not allowed at this time.
The Burn Ban remains in effect until the drought index dips below 500 for seven consecutive days or until further notice.
Above-ground charcoal, gas, and electric grills, however, are permitted. Seminole County urges everyone to ensure charcoal is fully extinguished after cooking when using grills. Barrel-type barbecue smokers are also allowed, as this is not considered “open burning.” If you are using cooking methods, avoid outdoor cooking if in close proximity to heavily wooded areas.

Seminole County Fire Department urges all residents to take the following steps to reduce wildfire risk and protect their homes:
• Create a defensible space of at least 30 feet around your home by removing dead vegetation and flammable materials
• Keep yards clear of trash, leaves, and debris, including roofs and gutters
• Have an Emergency Plan and an emergency kit ready in case an evacuation is ordered, especially if your home is near wooded areas
• Monitor Seminole County’s social media and local news for updates on road closures, smoke conditions, and other hazards
• Use extreme caution when grilling, camping, or discarding cigarettes
• Register withAlert Seminole atAlertSeminole.org to receive emergency notifications

What a Reunion!
Saving lives is what first responders do. It is the first thing they are trained to do and it is their prerogative. On May 6, Oviedo Police Officer and Oviedo High School SRO Officer Chris St. John met the man he saved on Sunday,April 26th. Doug Black, his girlfriend Cathy (pictured with him) and her family had arrived at church with the intention of attending service. That morning, Mr. Black was not feeling well.As he arrived in the parking lot, his condition worsened. His girlfriend stayed with him, refusing to leave his side, and when he showed a decline in health, she immediately jumped out of her car and ran to find help.
Officer Chris St. John, who was working a traffic detail that morning, jumped into action and immediately used anAED before performing manual CPR on Mr. Black.
Mr. Black became alert when Oviedo Firefighters arrived. Mr. Black was taken to Sanford HCAHospital for treatment.
Mr. Black has since made a full recovery and wanted to meet Officer St. John, who saved his life. The reunion today was emotional and filled with nothing but love and gratitude, from Mr. Black, whose life was saved and from Officer St. John, who was thrilled to see Mr. Black make such an amazing recovery.
