LIFE-SAVING AWARD LIFE-SAVING AWARD LIFE-SAVING AWARD
On December 28, 2025, Officer Matthew Brongel was the first law enforcement officer to arrive at the scene of a reported drowning involving a 15-month-old child. Upon entering the residence, Officer Brongel encountered the child in a critical medical condition, with family members visibly distressed and the situation highly emotional. Officer Brongel immediately and without hesitation, initiated lifesaving measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway clearing, and stimulation.As a direct result of his prompt and decisive actions, the child began exhibiting signs of life prior to the arrival of the Fire Department and the transfer of medical care.Throughout the incident, Officer Brongel remained calm, composed, and professional in an extremely chaotic and emotionally charged environment. His actions reflect the highest standards of service and dedication to public safety and are worthy of commendation. On December 30, 2025, hospital staff reported that the child was breathing independently and was expected to make a full recovery.This recognition honors Officer Brongel’s decisive actions and commitment to public safety during a critical incident in which his efforts directly contributed to saving a life.The background of the incident, along with the criteria required for receiving a Life SavingAward, will be formally read aloud by Deputy Chief Brian Foley to provide context for the commendation. Following the reading, Chief Dale Coleman will present Officer Brongel with the Life SavingAward and commend him for his exemplary service, professionalism, and dedication to the citizens of Oviedo.

Candidate election packets are available for pick-up beginning in March at the City Clerk’s Office We encourage prospective candidates to review materials early and plan ahead for the qualifying period.
To Qualify, You Must:
• Be a qualified elector
• Have lived within the incorporated City limits for at least one consecutive year immediately prior to the time for qualifying
• Submit all qualifying paperwork to the City Clerk no later than the qualifying period
2026 Qualifying Period:
August 3, 2026 – Noon on August 7, 2026
(During normal business hours in the City Clerk’s Office)

The City of Oviedo is looking for a City resident to fill a vacancy on our Public Arts Board! This is a great way to get involved in shaping public art spaces in the City!
The board meets every third Wednesday of the month in the Annex Building, deciding on murals, sculptures and various other art projects that come before the board.
Applications will be accepted until March 20, 2026, at 5 p.m.
This term will end on December 31, 2026. Be sure to get your application in soon!

The parking lots are anticipated to reopen on Saturday, March 28, 2026, for both parks The entrance of 426 to Shane Kelly Park will be closed. The public can access the park's back entrance, located off Lockwood Blvd. (where the dog park entrance is). The area where the resurfacing is being done will be closed off.
The Riverwoods Park car access gates off McCully Court and Hart Branch Dr. will remain closed for the duration of the project; pedestrian walk-through gates will remain. City Staff will block additional driveway space outside the access gates at both entrances to be resurfaced.
Please avoid parking in this area when the resurfacing begins.
