Jay Getty Day
On Monday, May 19, 2026, at the Oviedo City Council Meeting, the Mayor and Council came together to honor Jay Getty, officially proclaiming May 18, 2026, as Jay Getty Day in the City of Oviedo. Over the years, Jay has been a proudly recognized educator, coach, mentor, and community leader. As he embarks on retirement and the next stage of his life, the City of Oviedo extends its heartfelt best wishes. Thank you for your outstanding service to the youth of our community!

Duda Recognition
At the Monday, May 19, 2026 City Council Regular Session, the Council honored Oviedo’s A. Duda and Sons, Inc. on its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1926, A. Duda and Sons, Inc. expanded from a small celery farm into an internationally recognized company, shaping the agricultural heritage and driving the economic growth that define Oviedo and Seminole County today. Congratulations on a century of service, stewardship, and innovation!

The 2026 City Election is coming up on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and if you’re considering serving your community, now is the time to start preparing!
Candidate election packets are available for pick-up beginning in March at the City Clerk’s Office We encourage prospective candidates to review materials early and plan ahead for the qualifying period.
To Qualify, You Must:
• Be a qualified elector
• Have lived within the incorporated City limits for at least one consecutive year immediately prior to the time for qualifying
• Submit all qualifying paperwork to the City Clerk no later than the qualifying period

As part of Seminole County Public Schools’continued commitment to school safety and campus security, Oviedo High School will implement safety enhancements ahead of the 2026-2027 school year that you will need to be aware of.The gate on King Street will be closed during the instructional day from 7:40 am – 2:00 pm and from 7:40 am – 1:00 pm on early-release Wednesdays, beginning in the 2026-2027 school year This change helps to better manage campus access and reinforce perimeter security during school hours. Students, families, and visitors will continue to access the campus through the main campus entrance located on Pine Street.These updates are designed to strengthen campus access procedures, improve visitor management, and support a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Additional information regarding traffic flow, visitor access, and campus procedures will be shared with families and the community prior to the start of the school year

On Tuesday, May 12, the City experienced a storm that brought hail and high winds into the area. There were several parts of the city that had tree limbs down, trees toppled and debris through the roadways.
Immediately following the storm, our crews were out cleaning up the right-of-ways, removing branches and cutting up trees that had fallen into the street. They were also on standby to monitor the weather that arrived later that day and to assist residents who reported any additional debris. Great job to the team!
Annual DrinkingWater Flush Notification
Annual Maintenance Flush of Drinking Water -The City of Oviedo will perform the annual maintenance flush of the City's drinking water distribution system from June 4, 2026, through June 25, 2026. During this period, the City's drinking water distribution system will use a "free" chlorine residual instead of the usual "chloramine" disinfectant.
As part of the maintenance flush, residents may notice increased system flushing activity. Some residents may notice a slight chlorine taste and/or chlorine odor in the water. Fish owners and individuals undergoing dialysis need to take necessary precautions during the system's chlorine flush. If anyone has questions, they can contact the Public Works Department Utilities Division at 407-9715675

Due to the growing demand on the FloridaAquifer system, the City of Oviedo has taken steps to conserve water through programs that educate the public on water conservation strategies, water restrictions, and the use of reclaimed water for irrigation. The process of water conservation reduces demand on the FloridaAquifer system, thereby preventing a decline in freshwater levels.
Conservation Inside and Outside
There are many steps that residents or business owners can take to help in water conservation:
Step 1: Check for leaky pipes or fixtures inside and outside the residence or business. The slow drip from a pipe, faucet, toilet, etc. can lead to thousands of gallons lost per year. Fixing leaks and replacing old plumbing fixtures with water-saving devices could save a residential family of four (4) about 30,000 gallons of water each year.
Step 2: Replace fixtures with water-saving devices.Awater conservation device saves water, energy, and, most importantly, money for the resident or business owner.
Step 3: Check the irrigation schedule shown in the water restrictions section below for the optimal time.
Watering Restrictions
These restrictions apply to all municipal water users, including all City of Oviedo alternative, surface, and potable water users.The City recommends reclaimed water use be limited to no more than two (2) days a week. Water use is restricted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Splash Zone will be open starting Saturday, May 23rd and will be fully operational Monday through Sunday during the summer months. The Splash Zone allows kids to play in two-hour increments, offering 2 (two), two-hour increments on Sunday-Friday and 3 (three), two-hour increments on Saturdays.
The Splash Zone is the perfect play area for all ages, including a shallow end for the little ones and a deeper end for older kids who can use the slide. The City does provide flotation devices upon request. The Oviedo Gym Concessions stand is open during the hours of operation.

Door Alarm Door Alarm
The Oviedo Fire Department has door and window alarms available to give away, courtesy of the Wesley Seth Foundation.
As kids get out of school and spend more time at home or areas near water, we want to make sure caregivers are aware of the program to keep kids safe!
These alarms will activate if a door or window is opened, making it easy for a child to slip out and fall into the water. Fill out this form, and the Fire Department will contact you about how you can pick it up: Interest Form
Congratulations to Oviedo Police Officer and K9 handlers, Ryan Dauzat and Oviedo Fire Engineer/Paramedic Danny Forrest for being chosen as First Responders of the Year by the Oviedo Rotary Club.
They were recognized at a breakfast on Wednesday, May 13 for all the amazing work they do for the community

BURN BAN BURN BAN
ABurn Ban is in effect across Seminole County, prohibiting the ignition and burning of open fires.
Under Seminole County Code (Section 85.24), a Burn Ban is enacted when the drought index, known as the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), reaches or exceeds 500 and no measurable rainfall is expected in the near future. Based on these conditions, the Burn Ban went into effect onApril 24, 2026.
The purpose of the Burn Ban is to reduce the risk of wildfires and protect lives and property throughout the community.
The countywide, mandatory Burn Ban applies to both unincorporated areas and municipalities of Seminole County.The Burn Ban prohibits all outdoor burning that has not been permitted by the Florida Forest Service. Bonfires, campfires, and the burning of vegetative (yard) debris is not allowed at this time.
The Burn Ban remains in effect until the drought index dips below 500 for seven consecutive days or until further notice.
Above-ground charcoal, gas, and electric grills, however, are permitted. Seminole County urges everyone to ensure charcoal is fully extinguished after cooking when using grills. Barrel-type barbecue smokers are also allowed, as this is not considered “open burning.” If you are using cooking methods, avoid outdoor cooking if in close proximity to heavily wooded areas.

Seminole County Fire Department urges all residents to take the following steps to reduce wildfire risk and protect their homes:
• Create a defensible space of at least 30 feet around your home by removing dead vegetation and flammable materials
• Keep yards clear of trash, leaves, and debris, including roofs and gutters
• Have an Emergency Plan and an emergency kit ready in case an evacuation is ordered, especially if your home is near wooded areas
• Monitor Seminole County’s social media and local news for updates on road closures, smoke conditions, and other hazards
• Use extreme caution when grilling, camping, or discarding cigarettes
• Register withAlert Seminole atAlertSeminole.org to receive emergency notifications
