At the Monday, June 15 City Council Meeting, members of the Hagerty High School Girls Varsity Softball Team were recognized by the Council for their championship win!
The Hagerty High School Girls Varsity SoftballTeam had an unforgettable season, representing their school and City with Husky pride and determination. Throughout the season, the team was tested, strengthening their drive for excellence and deepening their bond as a team. This resilience fueled their success, resulting in a record of 27 wins and 4 losses, a third straight District Title, a second straight Regional Championship, a second consecutive FHSAAFinal Four State Tournament appearance, and ultimately Hagerty High School’s second FHSAAGirls Varsity Softball State Championship. The state championship game remained tied 0–0 until the bottom of the 6th inning, when catcher Campbell Downing hit a two-run double deep into left field, securing the eventual game-winning runs and Hagerty’s second state championship, its first since 2018.
OnThursday, June 25, 2026, the Liberty Tree was officially planted at City Hall. Thanks to a generous donation fromABudgetTree, a hickory tree was dedicated in a ceremony that truly represented what freedom is all about.The ceremony was forAmerica’s 250 Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Speakers included Dr. Deborah Bauer, Seminole County Commissioner Bob Dallari and a reading of the Proclamation by Deputy Mayor Natalie Tuechert, as written by Mayor Megan Sladek who could not attend.
The Oviedo Memorial Post 243 presented the colors, held a flag retirement ceremony and a 21 gun salute.
The tree is located in the lawn next to City Hall at 400Alexandria Blvd. and a plaque commemorating the event will be installed.

The 2026 City Election is coming up on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and if you’re considering serving your community, now is the time to start preparing!
Candidate election packets are available for pick-up beginning in March at the City Clerk’s Office We encourage prospective candidates to review materials early and plan ahead for the qualifying period.
To Qualify, You Must:
• Be a qualified elector
• Have lived within the incorporated City limits for at least one consecutive year immediately prior to the time for qualifying
• Submit all qualifying paperwork to the City Clerk no later than the qualifying period
2026 Qualifying Period:
August 3, 2026 – Noon on August 7, 2026

Important Road Closures for the Celebration
Oviedo Mall Blvd northbound from Red Bug Lake after the 2nd Target entrance.
Will close at approximately 8:30 p m
Any citizens arriving to the event after the 8:30 are encouraged to enter via W Broadway St/Oviedo Mall Blvd or Dovera Dr.Those attempting to enter Oviedo Mall Blvd via Red Bug Lake Rd will be redirected to Dovera Entrance.
Target, Chilis,ABC Liquor andAdvent ER entrances will remain open as normal however traffic exiting these lots will be directed to turn South toward Red Bug Lake Rd
Oviedo Mall Entrance south of Dillards (at the traffic light)
Will close at 4:30 p m
Will not reopen until fireworks are cleared by the fireworks vendor and FD
Dillards
South and East store entrances will be barricaded and closed due to proximity to fireworks launch area

Oviedo High School to ImplementAdditional Safety and Security Enhancements for 2026-2027 School Year

As part of Seminole County Public Schools’continued commitment to school safety and campus security, Oviedo High School will implement safety enhancements ahead of the 2026-2027 school year that you will need to be aware of. The gate on King Street will be closed during the instructional day from 7:40 am – 2:00 pm and from 7:40 am – 1:00 pm on early-release Wednesdays, beginning in the 2026-2027 school year This change helps to better manage campus access and reinforce perimeter security during school hours. Students, families, and visitors will continue to access the campus through the main campus entrance located on Pine Street. These updates are designed to strengthen campus access procedures, improve visitor management, and support a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Additional information regarding traffic flow, visitor access, and campus procedures will be shared with families and the community prior to the start of the school year

New Sidewalk Construction - Starting Monday, July 6, 2026, construction will begin the intersection of Lockwood Blvd. and CR 426. This project consists of constructing a new sidewalk connecting the entrance of Shane Kelly Park to the existing sidewalk on North Lockwood Blvd. This project will require temporary lane closures and or traffic interruptions with the presence of flaggers from July 13, 2026, through October 9, 2026.The lane closures will occur between 9:00AM and 3:00 PM on weekdays. For the safety of workers and motorists, please follow all signage and detour instructions when traveling in the area. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sugarberry Pond Work - Monday, June 29, a City Contractor started work on Sugarberry Pond located in theAlafaya Woods Blvd. community.The purpose of this project is to improve the drainage for Sugarberry pond and upgrade the stormwater systems. This work will be from June 29. 2026 to October 9, 2026 with temporary shifting lanes . This will occur occasionally when it is needed, from Sugarberry Trail to McCully Ct, please drive with caution and follow the signalization and detour signs for the safety of the workers, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic.This work will not affect the access to the school via sidewalk for pedestrians and bikes
Due to the growing demand on the FloridaAquifer system, the City of Oviedo has taken steps to conserve water through programs that educate the public on water conservation strategies, water restrictions, and the use of reclaimed water for irrigation. The process of water conservation reduces demand on the FloridaAquifer system, thereby preventing a decline in freshwater levels.
Conservation Inside and Outside
There are many steps that residents or business owners can take to help in water conservation:
Step 1: Check for leaky pipes or fixtures inside and outside the residence or business. The slow drip from a pipe, faucet, toilet, etc. can lead to thousands of gallons lost per year. Fixing leaks and replacing old plumbing fixtures with water-saving devices could save a residential family of four (4) about 30,000 gallons of water each year.
Step 2: Replace fixtures with water-saving devices Awater conservation device saves water, energy, and, most importantly, money for the resident or business owner.
Step 3: Check the irrigation schedule shown in the water restrictions section below for the optimal time.
Watering Restrictions
These restrictions apply to all municipal water users, including all City of Oviedo alternative, surface, and potable water users.The City recommends reclaimed water use be limited to no more than two (2) days a week. Water use is restricted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Riverside Park has a new installation of a free Little Library! Thanks to the Oviedo Winter Springs Kiwanis Club, kids can now grab a book at the playground area. It's a colorful library that will soon be filled with fun adventures and stories!

Door Alarms Door Alarms
The Oviedo Fire Department has door and window alarms available to give away, courtesy of the Wesley Seth Foundation.
As kids get out of school and spend more time at home or areas near water, we want to make sure caregivers are aware of the program to keep kids safe!
These alarms will activate if a door or window is opened, making it easy for a child to slip out and fall into the water. Fill out this form, and the Fire Department will contact you about how you can pick it up: Interest Form
Why risk it? We want everyone to have a great time over the July 4th weekend, which means thinking about drinking and driving. If you plan to cool down with an ice-cold drink, have a designated driver take you home. Utilize ride share programs such as Uber or Lyft. If you drink and drive, you put yourself and others at risk of serious injury or death.

in June, firefighters got an up close and personal look at the new Woods 48 truck! They went over the truck, head to toe, drove it while simulating using the front nozzle to put out fires and learned the winch system.
This was all made possible through generous grants secured by the City. In June 2023, the department was awarded $275,000 for the purchase of the vehicle and in August 2025, the Oviedo City Council was presented with a check for and additional $275,000 by Rep. David Smith from the State of Florida to fund the purchase of equipment needed for the truck. In total, the department was awarded $550,000 for the apparatus.
The specialized vehicle will serve a critical role in protecting Oviedo’s residents and natural areas. With portions of the community bordered by brush and woodlands, the risk of lightning strikes sparking wildfires is always present. The brush truck will give the Fire Department the ability to respond quickly and effectively to these types of emergencies. The truck will also be used for highwater rescues during storm season should residents need assistance evacuating flooded areas.

Another successful summer camp! Our kids had such a great time in June exploring and playing. We want to thank Helpful Hands, Inc. for making this summer camp happen. The kids got to see demonstrations from our police department and the Oviedo Fire Department. We took them bowling at Oviedo Bowl, Wonderworks, Ziplining at Planet Obstacle, hung out with Pawfection Dog Training animals, the Brevard Zoo and the best part - Universal Studios where they got gold star treatment from the staff.

Pickleball Pickleball
It’s all the rage and we have plenty of courts in Oviedo to play on! Grab your friends, meet new ones and have fun while getting a full body work out!
Pickleball is a low impact workout that blends tennis, badminton and ping-pong and can be played one-on-one or groups of 4. It builds heart health, muscle, burns calories and sharpens those reflexes! Not to mention pickleballers always leave in a great mood after playing.
We have designated pickleball courts at Round Lake and Riverside Parks!
