Art in Art in the the Chambers Chambers We have a new Art in the Chambers installment at City Hall! This quarter's artist is Oviedo Resident Patricia Pope. On Monday, August 3rd, the City Council were officially introduced to Ms. Pope and her beautiful works of art that incorporate silk and nature. This is the fifth Art in the Chambers exhibition and on display are thirty-four (34) beautiful silk and batik paintings by Patricia Pope, mainly representing elements of nature. Ms. Pope has been an artist ever since she was introduced to the art of Batik and Silk Painting at the University of Washington in Seattle. Since then she has been teaching Central Florida students and has been featured in galleries and art shows across Florida while holding workshops at Crealde School of Art in Winter Park. The free exhibition will be open to the public from August 3, 2026, until October 30, 2026, during regular office hours. Some of the paintings are for sale, and 25% of the sale amount will be donated to the Public Art Fund. Anyone can come and see the art hanging in the Council Chambers Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 400 Alexandria Blvd.

STORMWATER

PIPE REPLACEMENT Beginning Monday, August 7, 2026, a City contractor will start replacing a stormwater pipe located at the intersection of Mactavandash Lane and Maclauren Court. The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-October. To facilitate this work, a lane shift will be in place on Mactavandash Lane from Macglenross Drive to Abbotsford Court. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and follow all traffic control devices and signage to ensure the safety of both workers and the traveling public.

Ebike Safety Message!

Our Officers were ready to spread the word about Ebike Safety as the kids headed back to school this week. We want parents to know the difference between an Ebike and Motorcycle, and our officers spoke to several media outlets about it. Make sure the kids know the rules of the road, wear helmets, ride under the speed limit and do not drive into traffic or impede traffic on the roads. It is always important to remember Fire Safety no matter what time of day. Close before you Doze means you should close your bedroom door before you go to sleep. This simple habit helps to block smoke, gases and extreme heat should a fire start after bedtime. This allows precious, extra time for families to escape from an exterior window or door before the room fills with smoke. Lower Temperatures: A closed door can keep room temperatures under 100 degrees Fahrenheit during a fire, compared to over 1,000 degrees in rooms with an open door. Less Carbon Monoxide: It keeps dangerous carbon monoxide and toxic smoke levels significantly lower, preventing rapid poisoning. Limited Oxygen: Shutting the door deprives the fire of oxygen, which slows down how fast the flames spread through the home. Faster Escape Times: Modern homes burn much faster than older homes due to synthetic materials, shrinking escape windows from 17 minutes down to just 3 minutes or less.

CommunityConnect The Oviedo Police Department has launched Versaterm CommunityConnect, a new automated communication tool designed to keep 9-1-1 callers informed after their initial call. The system provides callers with timely updates via text message or email regarding the status of their case, including: When an officer is en route. If there will be any response delays. When an investigator has been assigned to their case. Confirmation that the caller's report has been received. The detective assigned to the case and the important case information. The first step in this process is the caller's acknowledgment of the OPT-IN message. This initial message confirms receipt of the call and provides additional information related to the reported crime. For certain qualifying offenses, the system will also connect victims directly with available victim service resources to ensure they receive the support they need as quickly as possible. This proactive approach also allows victims to be aware of jail release dates and transfers to other institutions. On the web page, there is a link to check the status of the case, fill out a survey and allows the user to optout while providing transparency. This program is voluntary.
