Summer is just around the corner in the great City of O’Fallon, and there is much to celebrate! Our dedicated staff has been working hard this year, preparing a stellar lineup of seasonal events and programs. Our popular summer concert series, Jammin’, is now in full swing, leading us toward our annual Fourth of July festivities. This year holds special significance as we join the nationwide America 250 celebration, honoring the milestones and history that have shaped our nation over the last two and a half centuries.
No matter where summer takes you, there’s plenty of excitement waiting right here in O’Fallon. Whether you’re staying close to home or planning weekend outings, our city offers something for everyone from live music to pool days and patriotic celebrations. Inside this edition of O’Fallon Life, you’ll find everything you need to make the most of the season, including a lineup of can’t-miss events, family-friendly festivals, and community favorites to keep you and your loved ones entertained all summer long.
As temperatures rise in O’Fallon, it can only mean one thing—the return of our beloved Heritage & Freedom Fest. This year’s celebration is shaping up to be unforgettable. On July 3, we’ll welcome top country talent to O’Fallon with co-headliners LOCASH and Lauren Alaina. Then, on the morning of July 4, don’t miss our annual parade down Main Street, featuring this year’s theme, A Milestone in the Making. That evening, the celebration continues as the legendary KANSAS takes the stage to close out the festivities.
Our weekly Jammin’ concert series is bringing great music and lively crowds to Civic Park every Tuesday evening. I invite you to come out and enjoy these free, family-friendly performances. When it’s time to cool off, stop by Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center nearby. Be sure to mark your calendar for Pop Drop on June 6 and Bomb-Pop Day on June 25!
I hope that you can spend time with your family and friends this summer. As we enjoy the festivities around town, I look forward to sharing these wonderful experiences with all of you. See you there!
Sincerely,
Bill Hennessy, Mayor

The newly upgraded synthetic turf fields at Ozzie Smith Sports Complex are officially ready for play. Fields A and B now feature full synthetic turf, while Fields C–G received brand-new synthetic infields—ready for seasons of play ahead. The move to synthetic turf offers significant benefits for our community athletes. Unlike natural grass, these fields are designed for all-weather playability, meaning they drain quickly and can be used immediately after a rainstorm without becoming a muddy mess. They also provide a consistent, level surface that stands up to heavy daily use, reducing the need for the “downtime” usually required for grass to recover.
To make the day even more special, the complex’s namesake, Ozzie Smith, joined Mayor Bill Hennessy for the ribbon-cutting and first pitch. Known affectionately as “The Wizard,” Smith is a Baseball Hall of Famer and St. Louis Cardinals legend. Widely regarded as the greatest defensive shortstop in the history of the game, he won 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and was famous for his signature backflip while taking his position. Here’s to many great games on these new and improved fields!

On May 2, 2026, the Sage Chapel Cemetary was presented with a historical marker from the O’Fallon Historic Preservation Commission. The site has been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 2018. Located along Veterans Memorial Parkway, and maintained by the City of O’Fallon; Sage Chapel is the final resting place for an estimated 117 Black O’Fallon residents dating as far back as 1881. Only 38 plots have been marked and it’s estimated 20% of its burials were former slaves. Many gravesites can no longer be precisely located, therefore no further burials are allowed, to prevent potential desecration.

On Thursday, April 23, the City of O’Fallon welcomed five new elected officials. Scott Wilcox (Ward 1), Scott Yates (Ward 2), Doug Link (Ward 3), Cori Spencer (Ward 4), and John Palmer (Ward 5) were sworn-in to begin their terms as City of O’Fallon Council Members.

The Main Street Improvement Project is a series of improvements to O’Fallon’s Main Street. Working in phases, this project aims to address a variety of concerns. Phase 3 is anticipated to begin this summer. This project will extend from the railroad tracks to St. Joseph Ave. and includes a roundabout, new 8’ multi-use paths, as well as upgraded sidewalks on the west side of the road. The project also includes decorative street lighting to compliment O’Fallon’s historic Main Street, and a two-way left turn lane between Third St. and St. Joseph Ave.

Veterans Memorial Walk (Located at: 801 Belleau Creek Rd., O’Fallon, MO 63366) Free and open to the public 24/7. Public ceremonies scheduled at the Walk include Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, POW/MIA Remembrance Day, and Veterans Day.

The Path of Heroes is a 7.8-mile route through the heart of O’Fallon that passes several City facilities, like the Veterans Memorial Walk, CarShield Field, and City Hall. Through the Path of Heroes program, local families have the opportunity to honor the legacy of their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice. Dedicated memorial signs line the path, proudly displaying the names and ranks of our fallen service members. These signs have been presented to the families of each service member at our Memorial Day ceremony for the last several years. At the 2026 Memorial Day ceremony, we honored eight fallen heroes from O’Fallon. With the recognition of these eight service members, all known fallen heroes from O’Fallon have been honored. This program will remain available to honor the lives of any O’Fallon resident who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The journey begins in the northern sector along Tom Ginnever Avenue, traveling east toward T.R. Hughes Boulevard. From there, the path winds southward and connects with Belleau Creek Road before heading west across Mexico Road. Continue until you reach the furthest sign at Fort Zumwalt West High School, then head back east on Mexico Road. The route then turns north, cutting through the center of O’Fallon via Woodlawn Avenue, Civic Park Drive, and N. Main Street to complete the circuit. The entire path currently features 20 fallen service members. The full map of the Path of Heroes can be found on the O’Fallon Veterans Commission page at: www.ofallonmo.gov/veterans

To ensure success in the O’Fallon Swim Academy, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed, moving to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely, not quickly. Children learn at different paces and it is common to repeat a class.
Parent or guardian participation in the water with the child is required. Children will enjoy learning basics of water safety and participating in a swim class. Parents/ guardians will learn how to safely guide their child and help them advance at their own pace. Min/Max: 3/8.
This transitional class is for children who have passed Starfish but are not yet ready to be away from their guardians just yet. Swimmers gain confidence and independence as they master introductory skills and learn safe practices. Parents/guardians will participate in the water during the first 2-4 classes. Min/Max: 3/8.
Prerequisites: At least 2 years old or completion of Starfish. Swimmers who successfully complete Pufferfish can: swim/ bob underwater with assistance, following directions, swim independently of parent/ guardian, and jump in without assistance.
CHILDREN MUST PASS THE PREVIOUS SWIM LEVEL, OR BE ABLE TO COMPLETE TASKS FROM PREVIOUS LEVEL TO MOVE UP.
The Turtle class is for beginners. Activities may seem repetitive, but students will gain confidence as they master basic introductory swimming and water safety skills. Min/Max: 3/6.
Swimmers who successfully complete the Turtle level can: jump in, bob, self-propel 5 feet, and swim underwater comfortably without assistance, know safety practices, and can retrieve an object from chest-deep water with assistance.
The Seahorse class continues to build your child’s independence and confidence in the water to prepare them for Level 1: Jellyfish. Min/Max: 3/6.
Swimmers who successfully complete the Seahorse level can: float on their front and back, retrieve a chest deep object, jump in, and self-propel 10 feet without assistance, and blow bubbles out of their nose.
This level builds on basic swimming skills, reinforces independent swimming, and introduces the freestyle and backstroke. Min/Max: 3/6.

This foundational six-week program offers the ultimate introduction for young boys and girls to the great American pastime. The structured weekly sessions focus on basic skill development. Since the ball is hit from a stationary tee, this program removes the challenge of hitting a pitch, allowing children to focus on hand-eye coordination and a basic understanding of the game. Games will be 1-hour long on Saturday mornings. Practices are determined by the coach at the beginning of the season. Are you interested in coaching these future major league players? O’Fallon Theatre Works began taking the stage in the City Hall gymnasium in 2001 and we’re excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of OTW with a new renovated theater space!
Due to this renovation, O’Fallon Theatre Works will have a reduced schedule in 2026. While OTW will certainly miss entertaining our residents for that period of time, they’re very excited to welcome everyone into the new theatre!

FOLLOW THE OTW FACEBOOK PAGE TO STAY UP TO DATE ON THIS PROJECT!

What began as O’Fallon Theatre Works In Concert: Celebrating America’s Birthday has grown into something even bigger. Please join us in welcoming the newly rebranded O’Fallon Theatre Works Troupe!
Rather than a single weekend of performances, the troupe will now be touring throughout the city for the remainder of the year—sharing their passion for theatre with audiences in a variety of venues and events, starting with Jammin’ on June 23, and Fall into the Arts on September 20!
You can catch the O’Fallon Theatre Works Troupe at the aforementioned events, but even MORE will be announced soon on our social media pages!

Shakespeare in the ParkTwoGentlemenofVerona
Wednesday, August 26 6:30 p.m., O’Day Amphitheater
This stripped-down, actor-centric production features a versatile cast of six, with most tackling multiple roles in one of Shakespeare’s iconic texts. Creating a rich theater of the imagination, they will take the joyous, professional Shakespeare that the Festival is known for to thousands of people who might not otherwise have access to it. Best friends Valentine and Proteus swear loyalty to each other… until they both fall for the same woman. Suddenly loyalty, love, and good judgment all go out the window. Complete with disguises, misunderstandings, and one very scene-stealing dog, this is Shakespeare’s original rom-com about friendship, forgiveness, and the hilarious messiness of growing up.
The City of O’Fallon offers a vibrant artist exhibition showcase, providing diverse opportunities for both local and regional artists to share their creations with the community. These art galleries are housed at City Hall, Krekel Civic Center, and Renaud Center.
