Vote-By-Mail Ballots to Be Mailed for the 2025 Municipal Elections Broward County Supervisor of Elections will mail over 1,800 Domestic Vote-By-Mail (VBM) ballots for the
March 11, 2025, Municipal Elections
Municipalities participating include: • Coconut Creek • Deerfield Beach • Miramar • Pembroke Pines • Sea Ranch Lakes Voters are reminded to sign their Vote-by-Mail Ballot Voter Certificate on the envelope before mailing it back to the Supervisor of Elections office. Voters who want to vote by mail must request a ballot no later than February 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Under current Florida Laws, Vote-by-Mail requests are valid through the end of the calendar year of the next regularly scheduled general election. Voters who wish to receive a Vote-by-Mail ballot for 2025 through 2026 elections are required to complete a new Vote-by-Mail ballot request starting January 1, 2025. Vote-By-Mail ballots have pre-paid postage built into the return envelopes. Voters returning a Vote-By-Mail ballot by mail should provide as much time as possible for the USPS to deliver the ballot, as ballots must be received – not post-marked – by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, March 11, 2025. Voters can mail their Vote-by-Mail ballot using pre-paid return postage or drop it off at a secure ballot intake station located at any office of the Supervisor of Elections until 7:00 p.m. on March 11, 2025. Our efforts regarding the incinerator issue continues - the last recommendation to the Miami-Dade Mayor was to scrap the building of the incinerator altogether however during a recent workshop there was no collective agreement among the Miami-Dade commission and a vote to be taken in February. We will be following the matter closely and will update residents accordingly. Hello Miramar! I was first elected as a Commissioner in the City of Mirmar in March 2003. Oh, how time has flown by, and what an experience twenty-two years have been! While I want to believe I have made a significant contribution in several ways, I most cherish the experience of an incredible relationship with the staffers at Miramar. The worker who keeps the parks clean and safely maintains the traffic islands across the city; the greenery and foliage are well-kept, water leaks are repaired and stopped, and the roads are patched seamlessly. I am most grateful for the Fire and Police departments and how they care for our residents. The Public Works team who keep the fleet vehicles on the road and save the city millions with their vision and leadership. I have a special consideration for those who work in the Parks and Recreation department, who have assisted us in staging various events over the years. At the various events, I keep asking for special applause and recognition for this group of workers because I like to remind audiences, when we are already in our beds after events, they are still at work breaking down the venue! My name has become part of the city, especially on plaques marking some of the incredible buildings we have constructed over the years. I have sought to maintain some level of decorum and integrity over the years, but it is the staff of this city who make Miramar special. Miramar is not only one of South Florida’s most vibrant cities but also one of its safest, thanks to the shared commitment of our officers, city leadership, and residents. This year, as we are continuing to develop our Real-Time Crime Center, utilizing advanced tools such as Flock Cameras and License Plate tools and other technologies. These innovations are designed to empower our officers to respond more swiftly, make informed decisions, and uphold the highest standards of public safety. PUBLIC SAFETY Miramar PD Homeless Taskforce Miramar News recently sat with the Homeless Taskforce at the Miramar Police Department to discuss what the team does and how it is helping the community one person at a time. House Bill 1365 addresses unauthorized public camping and public sleeping and prohibits counties and municipals from allowing it. Specifically, it prohibits allowing public camping or sleeping on public property without certification of designated public property by the Department of Children and Families. The taskforce helps Miramar address this challenge proactively by demonstrating ongoing outreach efforts, connecting individuals with shelter and services before encampments can form. Public safety and the needs of vulnerable individuals are met, providing a balanced response to homelessness.
What is the Homeless Taskforce Team (HTT)
The Homeless Taskforce Team is a dedicated group within the Miramar Police Department, led by Chief Delrish Moss, that focuses on addressing homelessness through a compassionate and comprehensive approach. This team includes the Outreach Coordinator, Officer Ryan Lyttle, the Community Resource Unit, and Police Social Workers. The mission of HTT is to build relationships with the homeless population, identify their needs, and provide them with the resources and essential items necessary to improve their lives.
What is the driving force behind the program?
The Homeless Taskforce’s driving force is a commitment to compassionate policing and addressing homelessness with dignity and respect. The initiative is grounded in the understanding that homelessness is often a result of more profound social and economic challenges, such as mental health issues or substance abuse, rather than criminal behavior. By addressing these underlying issues, the taskforce helps individuals connect with appropriate services, ultimately breaking the cycle of homelessness. Officer Lyttle, a 10-year veteran of the department, took on the role of Homeless Outreach Coordinator in October 2024. Since the onset of his career, he has developed strong networks across the Tri-County area and demonstrated a deep dedication to serving the unsheltered population. In 2021, after joining the Community Resource Unit, he became certified as a Homeless Outreach Specialist, and by 2022, his peers elected him Coordinator of the Multi-Agency Homeless Taskforce (MAHT).
How is the program funded?
The Multi-Agency Homeless Taskforce is a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) entity that accepts donations to further its mission. Most donations come from Broward County and municipals in Broward County that have seen the great things MAHT has accomplished. MAHT has also been awarded grants and graciously takes donations from private entities and nonprofit organizations that have played a significant role in providing in-kind donations, financial support, and volunteer efforts to enhance the taskforce’s impact.
How does this benefit the immediate Miramar community?
The program enhances public safety by proactively reducing unauthorized encampments and offering alternatives. By addressing homelessness in a compassionate way, the taskforce contributes to safer public spaces for all Miramar residents. Moreover, the efficiency of the program helps free up law enforcement resources, allowing officers to focus on other priorities, such as crime prevention and community engagement.
How can residents help or get involved in this program?
Residents can support the Homeless Taskforce by volunteering with local nonprofit organizations that partner with the taskforce, helping with outreach, food distribution, or administrative tasks. Residents can donate financially or provide essentials like clothing, hygiene kits, and food to support needy individuals. Advocating for compassionate policies by attending city commission meetings and engaging with local representatives can also help ensure the program continues to receive support.

PUBLIC SAFETY Miramar Fire Rescue is excited to implement the Siemens EPOC Blood Analyzer, a groundbreaking device that provides rapid, point-of-care blood analysis. Acquired through a grant, this technology enables our first responders to make critical, data-driven decisions in the field, leading to faster diagnoses and improved patient outcomes. As the first agency in Florida to be utilizing this device we are looking forward to being able to show the positive impacts this can have on patient care and outcomes. This leap forward in public safety and medical response highlights the commitment Miramar Fire Rescue has in transforming emergency care for our City and its residents, businesses and visitors. KEY HIGHLIGHTS: • Statewide First: Our agency is the first in Florida to deploy the Siemens EPOC Analyzer in the field, setting a new benchmark for emergency response innovation. •
Grant Funding: This technology was secured through a grant, allowing us to advance community safety without burdening local taxpayers.
Fire Safety Tips: FOR THE NEW YEAR!

Life-Saving Impact: The analyzer delivers real-time diagnostics, measuring things like blood gases, oxygen levels, and a total of thirteen different tests, directly at the scene of an emergency. These insights empower paramedics to provide swift and targeted care, which can make the difference between life and death.
• Inspect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: o Test all detectors monthly and replace batteries as needed. Detectors should be replaced every 10 years. • Properly Dispose of Fireworks and Decorations: o Douse spent fireworks in water before discarding them. o Remove holiday decorations promptly, especially natural Christmas trees, as they can become a fire hazard. • Practice Candle Safety: o Never leave burning candles unattended. Use battery operated candles as a safer alternative. • Have an Escape Plan: o Ensure all family members know at least two ways to exit each room in the house and have a designated meeting spot outside.
• Check Heating Equipment: o Have furnaces, fireplaces, and space heaters inspected and cleaned annually. Keep flammable items at least three feet away from heat sources. o Include first-aid supplies, medications, water, non perishable food, flashlights, and extra batteries. Regularly check and update your kit. • Mental Health Matters: o Prioritize mental well-being by setting aside time for relaxation, connecting with loved ones, and seeking professional help if needed.

SENIOR & SOCIAL SERVICES Each year on the 3rd Thursday of October, Miramarvels Academies invite special guest readers to celebrate this once-a-year world-wide event. The support that Miramarvels Academy receives each year from our City’s elected officials and employees never let us down with volunteer readers! This year’s Jumpstart’s Read for the Record selection was “Piper Chen Sings” by Phillipa Soo and Maris Pasquale Doran, spreading its empowering story of self-expression, overcoming self-doubt, and the ways family relationships can support us. Miramarvels Early Childhood program has participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record since its inception in 2006. Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience and celebrates and supports children’s early language and social-emotional development. The event– a day of celebration and fun– builds an intergenerational community through reading and raises awareness around the critical importance of early literacy and access to inclusive literature that fosters belonging and connection by reflecting children’s own experiences as well as showing the experiences of others.
