ONLINE REGISTRATION FAQ'S

Our online registration system allows customers to register via the Internet for most of our classes and programs. The system is available to residents 24-hours a day, seven days a week, except during times the system will be taken down for maintenance. How do I create an account and add a child or other family members to my account? Go to : https://apm.activecommunities.com/ mesaaz/ and click "Create Account" and complete the "application" with head of household or adult information. Complete all fields with an aserisk (*) which are required fields. Once the required information is complete click "submit". If you need to add additional family members, click "Submit and add Family Members". What if I already have a City of Mesa ACTIVE Net account? Go to : https://apm.activecommunities.com/ mesaaz/ and click the "Sign In" button. Enter your Login Name (your email) and enter your password. Click "Login", you are now ready to register for an activity or change/search your account information. What if I forgot my login name? ACTIVE Net uses your email address as your login name. It will always be the email you registered with. What if I forgot my password? How do I register for an Activity? Once your account has been established, registration for Activities is easy: 1. Click the Activities button on the registration home page. 2. Select the Activity that you would like to enroll into. Clicking the underlined name will show you a detailed Activity description. 3. Click the Add to My Cart button if you wish to register for the Activity. 4. Next, sign in to your online registration account by entering your Login Name information and Password. Proceed to checkout by clicking the Continue button. From this screen you may remove Activities from your cart or view more Activities and add them to your cart. *Please Note: If more than one family member will be attending the Activity, click on the button labeled, Add Another One (located under the Shopping Cart screen). 5. Confirm your Activity name, date and time, enrollee and price. 6. Click Continue to proceed with payment. You will be prompted that you are entering a secure site. Enter your credit card information on the Payment Information Page and agree to any required waiver(s) and confirm the payer meets the age requirement of "13 Years or Older". Click Continue. This system accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. *Please Note: The name and address must match those that are on file with your credit company. If the address shown is not your credit card billing address, click on the My Account button and change your residential address to match your credit card billing address. 7. Adaptive sports, recreation and social programs are offered to youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. The City of Mesa Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities offers a wide variety of activities including weekly sports and recreation programs, special interest classes, social activities, and summer camp. Our mission is to “Let no one sit on the sidelines.”

SPECIAL OLYMPICS AND UNIFIED SPORTS MEDICAL FORMS POLICY

All athletes competing in any sport must have a current Special Olympics Arizona medical form on file with the City of Mesa before beginning practice for any sport. There is a specific form to be filled out by the doctor, as well as the family. It is suggested that you keep a copy of your current physical. You can get the form from Special Olympics Arizona here. Athletes participation in the sports programs with this symbol are eligible to compete in Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ) competitions. The training schedule for each program is based on the competition schedule as determined by SOAZ. Fees collected for sports programs will cover the costs of staff, equipment and travel to competitions.

TGIF SOCIAL CLUB ADAPTIVE TGIF - AS YOU WISH POTTERY

The TGIF Social Club program is designed for individuals 16 and older with intellectual disabilities. Participants will paint their own pottery. Price includes materials. Drop off and pick-up at the Mesa Grand “As You Wish” location. For drop-off and pickup, parents/guardians please pull up and wait for a staff to accompany the participant to and from the building. ADAPTIVE INDOOR PICKLEBALL

OUTDOOR RECREATION ADAPTIVE HIKING CLUB

This program is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Join us for an Outdoor Adventure as we hike Hidden Valley via Mormon Trailhead. Participants must be able to tolerate consistent walking on uneven terrain for 1½ to 3 hours duration intermittent with a few breaks. Participants should not have serious medical issues including high blood pressure and respiratory problems. Each participant must have a current physical on file. Please wear hiking boots or tennis shoes and bring a backpack to carry water. A light snack will be provided but you may also bring your own. A hat and sunscreen is needed as well to protect against the Arizona sun! This trail is rated as Beginner. Due to COVID restrictions, we are unable to transport individuals to the hike location. This program is for individuals with intellectual disabilities. You and a parent/guardian can join Harley in the virtual kitchen while making some delicious recipes. You will receive recipes and Zoom meeting information weekly. At the conclusion of the class, registrants will receive a booklet of all the delicious recipes that were made in this class. ADAPTIVE WATER EXERCISE

This program designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Join us for this low-impact water exercise fitness class that will get you up and moving. This class will strengthen muscles and will include water walking, resistance, and water aerobics. Registrants must be proficient in swimming without assistance. Whether it's casual or competitive, there's always an opportunity to keep fit and have fun in the parks. The leagues include softball, senior softball, flag football, kickball, Recess for Adults, and volleyball. The spirit of our leagues is for fun and enjoyment.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Are you ready for some football? This flag football league has a recreational division (light-hearted competition) and a competitive division (geared towards the more advanced players). The league is an eight on eight player league and games start no earlier than 6:20pm. The season consists of 7 weeks of single games plus an end of season tournament for the top four teams. VOLLEYBALL

The City of Mesa offers a Thursday night Women’s volleyball league. Recreational & competitive leagues available. The season consists of 7 weeks of round robin style schedule with an end of season tournament for all teams. Each team plays one match per night, one match consists of 3 games. The first & second games are to 25pts and the third game to 15pts. Rally scoring is used. Games start no earlier than 6:30pm. All leagues are 6 on 6. SENIOR SOFTBALL

Come enjoy winter in sunny Mesa, Arizona. The City of Mesa, Parks & Recreation department offers a senior softball league during the winter (Jan-Feb). Registration takes place in mid-November and league play begins the first week of January. The league has five divisions of play ranging from very recreational (light-hearted competition) to competitive (geared toward the more advanced player). This program is geared towards adults 50 years and older.

KICKBALL

The City of Mesa offers a Friday night adult kickball league (must be 18 years or older to play). This is a recreational league (light-hearted competition). The season consists of 7 weeks of double header, round robin style schedule with a tournament for all teams at the end of the season. Games are 50 min long. Beer permits are available for purchase at our office. Games start no earlier than 6:30pm. Bring lawn chairs, drinks, food and friends. Headbands are encouraged. RECESS FOR ADULTS

Bring a friend and your inner kid for the newest City of Mesa program, Recess for Adults! Recess for Adults is a recreation program for those who would like to try multiple activities. Each week, a new sport or game will be offered. Players will have a chance to compete and socialize. This program is geared towards adults (18+) of all skill levels. Locations may change from week to week. However, locations will always be within City of Mesa limits. Mini tournament format. Games will be self-officiated. Sign up as a pair. This is considered your team and will be kept together throughout the season. Expect mingling and fun! Post weekly get togethers at local establishments. AQUATICS

Class Descriptions LEVEL 3

Ages: At least 5 but less than 9 In this class children will begin to expand their skills in the water and learn and practice survival floating. Participants will learn front crawl, backstroke, and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency and be introduced to treading. Participants will also begin headfirst entries from the pool deck (seated position). Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

LEVEL 4

Ages: At least 6 but less than 10 This class focuses on increasing endurance for previously learned swimming strokes (front crawl and backstroke) as well as introducing rudimentary sidestroke and breaststroke. Participants also learn butterfly basics. Open turns at the wall are also introduced in this level. Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

PARENT TOT BABIES

Ages: At least 6m but less than 1y 7m This class is designed to help babies and their parents/ caregivers become more comfortable in and around water so that when the time comes, they are ready to learn how to swim. Parents and children engage in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun. Parents will learn fundamentals of water safety as well as how to properly handle children in water and respond to emergencies. ADULT ACCOMPANIMENT REQUIRED. SWIM DIAPERS REQUIRED. PARENT TOT TODDLERS

Ages: At least 1 1/2 but less than 3 This class is designed to assist toddlers and their parents/caregivers with feeling more confident and comfortable in and around water. Participants will become more independent and learn skills that will help them transition into group lessons without an adult. Parents will learn fundamentals of water safety as well as how to properly handle children in water and respond to emergencies. ADULT ACCOMPANIMENT REQUIRED. Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

LEVEL 1

Ages: At least 3 but less than 6 This class introduces children to basic water skills; which children continue to build on as they progress in their swimming ability. Participants start developing positive attitudes, effective swimming habits, and safe practicing in and around the water. Children will work on retrieving submerged objects, gliding, and rolling from front to back and back to front with support. Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

LEVEL 5

Ages: At least 6 but less than 12 In this level, children refine their performance of all six strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke) and increase the distances that they swim. Participants also learn to perform flip turns on their front and back as well as head-first entry from a standing position. Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

BEGINNING DIVING

Ages: At least 6 but less than 13

This class focuses on the fundamentals of springboard diving. Participants will work on the foundations which include hurdles, safety, basic water entries and competitive dives such as pikes and straight dives. Participants must be 6 years old and must be able to swim comfortably in deep water for enrollment. Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

FLOWRIDER LEAGUE-BEGINNER Ages: At least 6 but less than 19

Catch the wave all year at Rhodes Aquatic Complex. This monthly league gives advanced riders the opportunity to spend time practicing FlowRider skills in a closed, low-participation setting. This league is for beginner riders who are already learning to stand up on the wave. This league will focus on more instruction with a coach and practice to improve all FlowRider skills. The use of the Flow Fence will be determined by the lifeguards on duty. All riders must watch a safety video and have a completed liability wavier on the first day of class.. Fee: $95.00.

LEVEL 2

Ages: At least 4 but less than 8 This class introduces true locomotion in the water. Children will work on gliding and rolling without support and recover to a vertical position. Participants will begin to develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on front and back, laying the foundation for future stoke development. Fee: Resident: $25/Non-Resident: $30

FLOWRIDER LEAGUE-INTERMEDIATE

Ages: 13 and up Catch the wave all year at Rhodes Aquatic Complex. This monthly league gives athletes the opportunity to spend weekly time learning and practicing FlowRider skills with a coach in a closed, lowparticipation setting. This league is for riders who are working on perfecting their stand-up skills by riding across the entire wave and getting more comfortable with balance and new techniques. Ages: 13 and up Catch the wave all year at Rhodes Aquatic Complex. This monthly league gives advanced riders the opportunity to spend time practicing FlowRider skills in a closed, low-participation setting. This league is for experienced riders who are already comfortable on the FlowRider and are working on enhancing their tricks and skills on the wave. Ages: 13 and up Use the water to help tone and strengthen muscles, relieve tension and stress, as well as improve overall range of motion and cardiovascular health. RESERVED LAP SWIM

Ages: 13 and up Reserve your lane for lap/fitness swimming at Kino or Skyline this summer. For the health and safety of our citizens and staff, all lap swimmers will need to preregister and reserve a time and lane in order swim laps. We will not accept walk-up/drop-in swimmers and will require only one swimmer per lap lane with a max of 8 swimmers per hour. The locker rooms and showers will not be available, bathroom use only, and all participants must exit the facility at the end of the hour to allow for cleaning and disinfecting of the facility. Water slides, lazy rivers, FlowRider - there are few better ways to beat the summer heat than to spend a day at one of Mesa's nine pools. While everyone is enjoying their lazy summer days, there is an amazing team of Mesa Lifeguards standing watch and keeping everyone safe. Each season, the City of Mesa seeks dedicated, reliable, hard-working individuals to become part of our team of Lifeguards. If you are interested in joining our team, follow these easy steps.

Step One: Get Certified.

Lifeguarding requires proven skills to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Mesa lifeguards are required to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.The Lifeguard Training class prepares participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. For those interested in teaching swim lessons, you will also need to pass the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor class to develop an understanding of how to conduct training sessions.

The Eagles Community Center is a City of Mesa transformation project that re-purposed the old Mesa Jr. High School site into a renovated community center. The Center offers a gymnasium, fitness room, and various classrooms with a focus on enrichment classes, youth sports, after school and summer programs.

The Mesa Tennis Center is open to the public and features 16 lighted courts and 7 lighted pickleball courts available for rental. Youth and adult group tennis lessons, adult leagues, tournaments, open court reservations and racket restringing are available. The Mesa Tennis Center has a ball machine for rent and tennis balls are available for sale.

his is a 1 day event, non-elimination round robin format. Tournament features three skill levels for boys and girls; Gold (advanced), Silver (intermediate) & Bronze (beginner). Within the different skill levels there are different ball types; Orange Dot Ball, Green Dot Ball, and Yellow Ball. The focus on these one day tournaments is on having FUN and Playing More Tennis. Event can only take 32 total players due to court restricts so sign-up early, this tournament may fill before the deadline! Yellow Standard Ball Divisions and Green Dot Ball Divisions are played on the Full Court. The Orange Dot Ball division is played on the 60 ft blue lines court. Tournament starts at 9am and finished between 10:30am and 11:30am depending on length of matches. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Our goal is to keep your kids active in sports while following the CDC guidelines for safety. *Participants must wear a face mask during check in, check out, restroom use, and non playing times. They are encouraged to wear a face mask while playing.*Staff will be required to wear a face mask while interacting with others.*All clinics will use individual-based and partner drills and activities only. No scrimmaging or game play. *Participants will be placed into small groups of 10 or less with limited interaction with other groups. *Participants must be able to function independently in a small group setting with their peers.*Participants must be able to follow the physical distancing protocol of 6 feet or greater which also includes refraining from high-fives, handshakes, and other physical touching.*The clinics will provide frequent cleaning procedures to disinfect hands, surfaces and equipment.*Only one parent/guardian per participant is allowed to stay onsite during the program. They must wear a face mask and follow the physical distancing protocol of 6 feet or greater. No siblings or other children allowed. Any additional spectators must stay on the outside gates of the facility.*Youth Sports administration has the right to change these policies at any time based on CDC, government, and department policies and recommendations.

HIKING ADVENTURE FOR KIDS

ARCHERY CLINIC

This beginner level program teaches participants in grades 3-6 how to shoot a bow and arrow and learn the fundamentals of archery. Class taught be certified archery instructors. Equipment provided. Join us for a hiking adventure as participants in 1-6 grade explore natureâ€™s playgrounds at Silly Mountain. Trails are beginner level and participants should be able to walk on rough and elevated terrain for 2-3 hours with a few breaks. Any spare time will be filled with activities such as mini games or icebreakers. Please wear hiking boots or closed-toe athletics shoes and bring a backpack with plenty of water to drink, sunscreen and hat. A light snack will be provided but you may also bring your own. Participants will need to be dropped off and picked up at the parking lot at the base of the mountain. This is a drop off event only and parents/spectators/siblings will not be able to attend.
