The Mosquito Battle Rages On! The mosquito battle typically runs from April to October, depending on the severity of the winter. After mild winters, the season may last all year, but fear not! The City of La Porte has a battle plan. City workers are engaged in a threepronged attack: (1) night fogging, (2) larvaciding of ditches, and (3) briquettes in ditches and detention ponds. You can join the fight! Each citizen can help in the control of mosquitos by taking the following measures: get rid of standing water on your property where mosquitos might breed; properly dispose of tires, cans, flower pots, etc.; keep gutters clean and freely flowing. Standing water in gutters can breed mosquitos; keep swimming pools, spas, and fountains properly treated. The City of La Porte uses only mosquito control chemicals that have been tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. No chemicals are used that have proven to be damaging to either public health or the environment. The City of La Porte mosquito control operators are licensed Pest Control Applicators through the Texas Department of Agriculture and must annually update their training in order to retain their licenses. PARKS & RECREATION All City pools open May 23rd! Pool reservations begin April 23 for La Porte residents & April 27 for non-residents. Reservations must be made in person at the La Porte Recreation & Fitness Center.
Summer Camps
Camp Breeze (Ages 5 – 8) & Camp Voyage (Ages 9 – 12) offer kids a safe summer camp atmosphere to have fun, make new friends, & create a summer experience they will never forget! Themed activities include field trips, swimming, games, sports, arts & crafts, songs, & more! Campers must bring a sack lunch, refillable water bottle, 2 snacks, and swimwear each day, unless instructed otherwise. Registration opens April 1st and space is limited! $60/week per camper. Weekly field trips are listed online at laportetx.gov/register. Camp runs Mon – Fri, 7:30AM to 5:30PM, for 10 weeks (Jun 1 – Aug 7), with a special camp theme each week!
TAAF Youth Track & Field
Come join us this summer as we compete at local, regional, and state level track & field events. This program, for ages 6 – 18, is all about having fun and competing against other quality track teams in the region. Coaching will be provided as well as track jerseys! Most track meets will be on Tuesday & Thursday evenings throughout the local area. Morning practices are held Monday thru Thursday at the La Porte High School track and specific times will vary with each age group. Season runs June 1 – July 29. Registration open April 1 – May 31. $40 per participant. Late registrations will be accepted thru June 15, but a $15 late fee will apply.
Adult Coed Kickball League
The kickball craze is coming to La Porte! Get your family, friends and neighbors together to form a team for what’s sure to be a blast and take you back to the glory days of elementary school P.E. class! League play will be on Wednesday and possibly Tuesday nights and all teams must be coed. Full team registration is preferred but individual free agents may register with the intent of being placed on a team by the Parks & Recreation Department. Free agents are NOT guaranteed placement on a team but the department will do its best to accommodate everyone wanting to play, and once placed, free agents are required to pay their portion of the team fee to the team captain. Season runs May 6 – July 1. Registration deadline is April 22. Entry fee of $200 per team.
Swim Lessons
Each summer we offer both group and private swimming lessons for ages 6 months to adult. Morning group lessons are split into multiple levels and sessions to accommodate each swimmer’s competence in the water. Private lessons provide one-on-one instruction and more flexibility with scheduling. All lessons are taught by certified instructors. Registration and schedule available starting April 1st.

Every 10 years, the results of the census are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets.
It’s about $675 Billion. The distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants, counties, and communities are based on census data. That money is spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works, and other vital programs.
Taking part is your civic duty. Completing the census is mandatory: it’s a way to participate in our democracy and say “I COUNT!”

The City of La Porte maintains a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System to transport storm water. The City has also created a Storm Water Management Program to manage the quality of discharge from the system.
