FROM THE MAYOR Dear Lansing Neighbors, Summer is right around the corner and Lansing is the place to be as the weather heats up! We have so many great activities and events happening all across the city. This year, celebrate 30 years of the Lansing Lugnuts, or play a round of golf as we celebrate 100 years of the city’s Groebeck Golf Course. My wife, Erin, and I love the Concerts in the Park series. Or check out the new Fitness Court at Benjamin Davis Park, the new Fish Ladder music venue in Old Town, or one of the new playgrounds across the city - with more to come this year. This edition of Lansing Living provides information on events and activities that bring us together as a community. Scholarship information The Lansing Parks and Recreation Department currently offers Youth Scholarships to Lansing residents under the age of 18 years old who need financial assistance to participate in eligible activities offered by the Lansing Parks and Recreation Department.

PARKS & REC REFUND POLICIES Refund Policies Lansing Parks and Recreation may cancel classes, programs, or permits due to low registration or unforeseen circumstances, with full refunds provided. We strive to offer quality leisure opportunities and welcome your feedback. If you cannot attend after registering, contact us promptly. See below for refund details depending on use. Refunds take 3-4 weeks to process (6 weeks for check payments). Adult Sports Programs Team fees: prior to league schedule mailing, full refund less $5.00 service charge. After mailing until before first game, one half refund less $5.00 service charge; after first game, no refunds. No refund of individual fees for adult sports. One Day Activities Up to one week prior to activity, full refund less $5.00 service charge. Classes/Programs Up to one week prior to class/program, full refund less $5.00 service charge. Less than one week prior to first class or program through before second class/program, one half refund less $5.00 service charge. After second class, no refunds. Pavilions & Wedding Sites 31 days prior to use, full refund, less $10.00 service charge. Within 30 days of use, no refunds unless reserved and paid for by another group. No refunds because of inclement weather. Athletic Field Rental Permits 28 days prior to use, full refund less $5.00 service charge. After 28 days until before 14 calendar days, one half refund less $5.00 service charge. Less than 14 days, no refund. No refunds of Athletic Field Practice permits.

AQUATICS Hunter Park and Moores Park Pools

Free Free open swim from June 13th – August 9th at our outdoor pools from 1-4pm and 5-7pm. The pools are closed from 4-5pm each day. Ages 4 and under must be accompanied by an adult age 16 or older who will always be within arm’s reach of the child in the water. Ages 5-12 must be always accompanied by a 16+ adult. There is a limit of 2 children under 5 years old per adult and no more than 4 children under 16 years old. Persons age 13+ must bring a school ID or driver’s license. ALL patrons must register via the new computer system and have their photo taken. Live action drills will occur regularly during open hours. Patrons will be notified when a drill is occurring. Both pools will be closed from 5-7pm on July Fourth. Hunter Park Pool will be closed 1-4pm on August Fourth. For pool updates call 517-4834491.

$5/Person Enjoy dedicated lap swimming in a structured, fitness-focused environment. This time is reserved for continuous lap swimming only. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training

$150/Res; $225/Non-Res The class will run for two weekends. Participants must attend all sessions in full. A written test and three skill tests must be completed prior to certification. Participation in the class does not guarantee certification or employment. If you pass the course, are hired as a lifeguard by the Lansing Parks & Recreation Department, and you work at least 20 hours each week from June 13-August 9, the cost of your class will be returned to you. 6 Sessions. Bathing Suit Drive

Every child deserves the chance to jump in and make a splash. We are accepting donations of new and gently used bathing suits through June 1st at the Schmidt Community Center. Your donation helps local kids participate in swimming lessons, open swim, and water safety programs without feeling left out. Give a child confidence, inclusion, and a summer full of fun.

Leader in Training

$100/Res; $150/Non-Res Our Leaders in Training Program is designed for teenagers aged 14-17 who are eager to develop leadership skills, gain practical experience, and make a positive impact on their community. This program is an excellent opportunity for individuals to transition from being campers to leaders, fostering personal growth and preparing them for future responsibilities. LIT’s will train alongside adult leaders, practice their developing skill sets by shadowing and assisting camp leaders and receiving mentoring and feedback. $76/Res; $114/Non-Res The Local Excellence Tennis Program is for competitive middle and high school players (ages 11–18) looking to elevate their game while building leadership and life skills. Athletes train in advanced techniques, conditioning, and match strategy, with structured match play twice per week and weekly leadership themes focused on goal setting and accountability. The program meets daily with indoor, or off-court options as needed. Optional field trips are offered during Weeks 3, 5, and 7, with no onsite tennis on those days.

NJTL Tennis (Ages 6-17)

$30/Res; $36/Non-Res Participants will take part in daily rotations of tennis instruction, life skills development, and academic enrichment, with weekly visits from community leaders who reinforce leadership themes. Optional field trips will be offered during Weeks 3, 5, and 7; no onsite tennis programming will be held on those days. Each participant will receive a TMYL t-shirt. The program is provided and staffed by Todd Martin Youth Leadership. All youth sports leagues require a Reversible Lansing Parks and Recreation jersey ($20) that can be purchased at Gier, Foster or Schmidt Community Centers. All youth sports ages are determined by the program’s start date. Youth must play in their correct age division. All practice locations and times are determined by the volunteer coach.

Girls Youth Softball

Adult Fall Softball 2026
